Hernia repair along with surgery

I'm sure this has been posted before, but I have looked at past posts and couldn't find it.  Can anyone tell me how having the hernia repaired during surgery affects the recovery process.  My husband didn't have that done.  Thanks so much!

 

What kind of hernia repair?  I had a hiatal hernia repair.  It doesn't add anything the recovery period.  I think the only thing I noticed was that it was a little painful to take a deep breath for a couple days. 

I JUST HAD A BYPASS WITH A HIATAL HERNIA REPAIR.  I RECOVERED PRETTY QUICKLY.  IT MAKES THE SURGERY A LITTLE LONGER BUT IT DID NOT MAKE RECOVERY LONGER, AT LEAST FOR ME.

I've had both separately, and I can say that my hernia healed much faster, so I wouldn't expect additional recovery time.

I had a severe hiatal hernia repair done when I was in for my RNY. My stomach was actually up in my esophogus (sp). My recovery time was no longer. The only thing I noticed was that I could not force myself to burp, I had to let it come up naturally. I also noticed I got a little pain when I took a deep breath. Other than that it was easy peasy!!

 

 

I had a moderately sized hiatel hernia & she didn't fix it because she said it didn't come into play with RNY; but my sister did LapBand & she had to have hers fixed.
