WLS and Intimacy

I am almost embarrassed to ask this, but it is something I don't think I have ever seen anyone talk about.

I am wondering how soon, post-op, are you able to resume sexual intimacy.  Despite my size, my significant other and I are still very active and the thought occurred to both of us last night that once I have surgery, we obviously aren't going to be able for a while.

And while YAY surgery and being healthier and smaller... you know... *blush*.

I was told to wait six weeks and since my side was still extremely tender at week four that was fine by me;)

I was told 3 weeks...but we didn't make it past two.  However, we were...ummmm....careful, the first couple times

I asked my doctor at the hospital when I could have sex again. He said "just don't do it here." Haha. That said, I'm a month out and it wasn't until 3 weeks that I felt up to it.

I was told that I could resume sex as soon as I felt like it, but the nurses frown upon romps in the rooms. All jokes aside, my husband and I were intimate again after about 3 weeks. As long as you are not in major discomfort, you are ok. You may have to modify the way things are done till you are well healed though so prepare to get creative!

And a little secret for you.. the smaller you get... the better it gets.

Dear god, that is my hope.  We manage now, but 7 years ago, pre baby and 175 lbs ago... it was pretty great.  I can only imagine how improved it will be as I shrink.

So many things to be excited about!

Surgeons usually say it's fine to have sex as soon as you feel up to it.  I can't imagine why you'd be advised to wait six weeks, since they aren't operating on your genital region at all.  I'm told the nurses would prefer you wait until you leave the hospital, they don't like walking in on patients having sex.

I was told whenever I felt up to it. The hubby and I waited about 3 1/2 weeks and was just very careful not to push on the tummy. And things do get better and more frequent as you get smaller. I am 5 months out and the hubby and I are enjoying it. LOL

Wow, I would think there is plenty you can do immediately.  Just get creative.

Thanks a lot ladies!  I just wasn't sure.  Unfortunately at my size there are only 1 or 2 ways that this works for us currently and just had a small fear of hurting my belly.  Obviously it's not a priority while healing, I just wanted to see how it worked out for everyone else.

Thanks!
