Please be kind to yourself.   You have made great progress.   If you are not in therapy, that is something to explore.  It is quite common to go from one addiction to another.

Your situation isn't alone.  I've been on this site for 9 years and seen many fall into the same pattern.  Thank goodness for your great support system.  Your next step should be a psych to get you understanding your disease (and that's what it is) and how you can maintain control.

You recognize this on your own, so I have no doubts that you can do this!

You're not a fool - some folks just have the constant need for more than there really is in normal existence.  I'm not sure the addictive type every outgrows that.  Exercise may help, but some counseling might be your best route.  And - you can't be an ex-alcoholic.  You're either an alcoholic or you're not.  It's always there.  It's just whether you're drinking or not.  I suppose the same applies to other addictions.

Fools don't let anyone know there's a problem, let alone ask for help and/or advice. You're no fool.

I'd encourage you to look for a therapist who specializes in addictions and weight loss surgery post-ops. Your PCP will most likely have a referral who's not the same person you saw for the pre-surgery thumbs up. Support system is great, you also may want to consider plugging into a step-program so you can have the support of those who are walking that line with you.

I am a recovering addict of multiple addictions: alcohol, drugs, prescription drugs.

I HATE  to say this but I TOTALLY  prefer to be an addictive ( read DRIVEN)and unafraid o explore )   personality !   WE ARE the EXTREMELY successful  people of our generations ... we may well not be HAPPY doing it ..but so what ..they make MOVIES about us ( look at Steve JObs of Apple ...gosh the guy never took a BATH surprise

Thanks everyone! I've gotten professional help and I'm feeling much better. I still have a long way to go, but I KNOW I can do it. I've always been told I have a lot of willpower..... Now, it's about putting it to use.

I know that amazing feeling after a long run, the wonderful adrenaline that follows, I think I'll stick to that for a high

you guys have been wonderful,

thanks again for all your support. :)
