How do you keep the protein drinks from foaming so much?

I'm not using a blender, just shaking it up.  If I just stir it around, it seems gritty. I'm trying to like the Syntrax nectars but the smell of the protein is the most off putting thing in the world.

I've been drinking my shakes from Blender Bottles.  I like them since I drink from a hole so my nose isn't exposed to the smell of the protein - that might might help you?  I shake them up in the bottle and then let it sit a few minutes for the foam to subside.

I found that the bubbliness of the shakes early on made my stomach upset.  I would make them ahead of time with the blender or shaker bottle and then let them sit.

Thanks. I made one in my blender bottle and almost half of it was foam~!  I did manage to pour off 8 ounces of liquid. I put the rest in the fridge for 2 hours and the foam went away. I have to say, I have not liked the Syntrax nectars much, but I added 16 ounces of water to about 14 grams of protein and had no trouble getting half of that down in an hour. I'm working on the other 8 ounces now.

I've read that shaking it first, without the ice, mixes it better -- after it's mixed, add the ice.

I notice when I make ice tea, if I add the water directly from the faucet into my glass, I get lots of foam - but when I add the water from a pitcher, no foam.

Still learning.  Currently in pre-op stage.

The only Syntrax ones that foam for me are the fruit flavors. Are you making a fruit shake?

Put the water in the glass first, then add the protein powder and stir with a spoon.  This keeps the liquid from being overly-aerated.  I might have to press the spoon back against the glass to get some lumps out, but other than that there isn't a problem.

Which proteins are you using?  I found the Cappuccino and Lemon Tea is good for afternoons or if I want an evening snack.

They don't all have that smell... experiment with a few other brands ;)

Using a travel mug (you know the sippy cup top kind) helps filter the foam and smell too. Here's a few tips that helped me http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/10/icky- brown-gack.html hope it helps a bit.
