How many calories are rny patients supposed to be consuming? How many proteins should we be getting? Thanks

My Dr. didn't give me a calorie goal.  He said between 70 - 90 g of protein and after the first month he'd like it to be between 80 - 90 grams (I struggle to hit that each day).  I notice my cals are around 600 each day (give or take) and I am almost 7 weeks out.  I've lost 51 lbs.  Hope that helps and good luck!

It really depends on what procedure you have.  Those with DS, for instance, eat way more calories than those with VSG to make up for malabsorption.  Your doc should be setting you up with a plan out of the gate.

My doctor didn't give me a 'goal'. He said, if you're not hungry, don't eat. Well, I wasn't hungry for 18 months. I had to not follow his advice. LOL I could eat very little. I reached goal in six months, I started out getting 200 - 250 calories the first few weeks, but on average, when I was losing, I got 450 - 650 calories. The last month I would on occasion hit 700 - 800 calories.....which freaked me out!!! What was even more weird, I had a hard time putting the brakes on.....and after getting down toooooo low (yes, it is possible), I called the dietitian. She instructed me to up my calories and find where I can maintain my goal weight. I've been maintaining for over 3 years, I need 1250 - 1300 calories per day to maintain. If I got up to 1350 - 1400 for a few days, I'll gain, if I drop to 1150, I'll lose. It's a fine line for me but I'm having no problems at all doing it.

Protein, 60 - 80 grams per day.
