When I was going through my "fad diet" phase, I alway**** a plateau where my weight loss stopped. How common are plateaus after WLS??

It depends on how you define plateau.

My doc defines it as 6 weeks with no scale loss or measurement loss.... I went18 months from surgery to goal weight without experiencing any plateau given that definition.

I had 2 times in 18 months where I had no weight loss on the scale for 2 weeks .. But never more than that.

I have had plateau's or stalls the whole time of my VSG journey.  First the dreaded three week stall, then many times over this past year.  It's a stair step journey for me - I weigh every day and record the weight in My Fitness Pal.  I love looking at the "reports" and seeing the graph of my weight loss - really inspiring but it is a stair- step journey!

What is different from every other diet & plateau I've been on is that I finally feel like I can get there - It's not an impossible journey.  It might take me awhile but it's also been a complete lifestyle overhaul - diet, exercise, mind, attitude, etc.

Good luck to you on your journey!

I can honestly say I have yet to have a true "stall" in my short 3 months.  I DO have periods where I stop losing weight- sometimes for days- but in every case when I measure myself after a couple of days I notice the measurements are pretty different.  I like to think of those times as when my body isn't losing weight- it's reorganizing it.
