Hello my name is Andrew and im from Alberta Canada, I just got booked my first appointment and im super nervous I really want this surgery I believe it will help my knee out because I only have one. I was complete healthy when I was younger I had a really bad car accident switch left me in a wheelchair for 2 years so i packed on the pounds . I would try to workout but my knees would be in so much pain. My doctor referred the clinic in Red Deer AB. So i was wondering what's it like? how long was the process? Im stressing out because I want this weight off really bad.

Hi Andrew, I'm from Manitoba so I can't answer your wait times questions but I just wanted to suggest you check out the Alberta forum, they may have the answers you're looking for.

Do you know which surgery you are thinking of having?  The major ones done, and discussed in detail on this sight and others is gastric bypass and VSG (vertical sleeve gastrectomy).  There are separate forums for each and many of those questions could be answered by others who've traveled those roads before.  I don't know what the Canadian requirements are, but in the U.S. there is usually a lengthy period of time (about 6 months for most) when you must try to lose weight before surgery with the help of a nutritionist.  I wish you the very best of luck with it.
