If you look just to the left of your name on the post, you'll see a white and gray square containing a human-ish silhouette with a question mark on it. That's your default avatar. You can leave it that way or set it with any other pic you like, as long as it's the proper size. Some people use pics of themselves, some use pics of pets . . .you can use anything that suits your fancy.

As Kate said, using something other than the default pic makes it easier for people *****gularly read your posts to recognize them as yours.
