Okay so there's been some major changes in my life in the last few days and since my last posting. I have decided that I'm going to self pay for my gastric sleeve and have it done in Mexico at Mexico bariatric Center with Dr. Lopez. So my surgery date is October 8 2014. 

Congrat's on the surgery date,  I go October 6th (RNY).  See you on the loser's bench :)

They moved my date up to Oct 6th

I wish you the best of luck. I just wanted to add make sure you have a doctor that will take care of any after care you need in the States. Many will not do it if you had the surgery out of the country.

Yes I am concerned about not having a doctor to take care of me after I return to the states.  

Now would be a good time to set something up, before surgery rather than after.

Perhaps you can look into Bariatric Centers in the area you live, call them and tell them you're having surgery in Mexico and looking for a bariatric specialist for aftercare.  If they can't help you, perhaps they could recommend someone who can.

I wouldn't advise waiting until you have a problem.  Get your ducks in a row and be prepared (like any good Boy Scout) 

That sounds like a very good idea.

I had mine in Mexico with Dr. Alvarez in July and have been very happy with my decision. But I made sure to check with my primary care physician that he would continue to be my GP when I got back. He had no problem with it and thought the surgery was a good idea. My insurance excludes anything to do with obesity. And my insurance would not have covered treatment for complications once I returned. I thought it was worth the risk.
