Good news after a scare

I had a routine colonoscopy on Friday. No problems, it was just time. I was totally surprised when the doc talked with me afterwards and explained that he removed 2 lesions that he was sending for biopsies. He tried to reassure me that chances were good that they were benign. But of course my mind has been racing, imagining worse case scenarios ever since. Good news - I got the call today that they were indeed benign and no worries - they'll see me in 10 years for a follow-up screening. It made my day, week, month and year, but at the same time reinforced the need for suggested health screenings!

I had a colonoscopy few years ago and they said they would see me in 10 years. My reply... sure, if you can catch me. What a horrible experience!

Why horrible?

I am asking because beside the "cleanup"- my second colonoscopy was not a problem. Easy. Painless...

Second? Yes. My first one was horrible. Not only my "cleaning " did not work - (I need a 2 day cleanup.)..But during my first colonoscopy - I woke up in a middle of it. .

During my second one I was fully sedated. I would never have one not fully sedated. Too many people wake up in a middle of it.

I woke up during the colonoscopy... it was very surreal. I do not remember pain but being awake and watching the screen was... interesting.

Prep was just the most horrible thing. Once I drank that little salty vial of cleaner, 6 minutes later I had the longest and worst few hours. And it was during the night - we lived on an island and had to spend the night before in a hotel. WHICH really sucked.

The few hours after the colonoscopy were some of the best hours of my life, though... I remember feeling very, very happy.

I was awake during mine too. My extremely hot doc remarked how lovely and clean I was and gave me a guided tour of my colon. Quite the experience.

The worst part was having to wait until I farted before I could leave - my ex husband was sitting waiting for me and it was just weird lol

But, its a life saving procedure!

I think it is just this way. My husband and I--and my 82-yr-old dad--recently had colonoscopies. They commonly find lesions, and best practice is to send them for biopsies. They remove them when small, so that they don't turn out to be big and problematic in the future. I was my dad's driver and "listener," and they explained this at length during that, just a few weeks ago. So, do not worry! But, keep up your regular screenings.

I had a colonoscopy last year as part of my RNY pre-op crap (Literally)...

I slept through the whole thing, and I was lucky, as my doctor doesn't prescribe that jug of prescription stuff... I had to drink 64oz of gatorade, mixed with an entire bottle of miralax and drink it in however many time increments... then take 4 dulcolax...

And this is why I don't hesitate to double... or even triple my dose of Miralax on the slight occasion I can't get thing moving

I used food as my reward (pre op), but I wanted healthy food so we went to Zoe's Kitchen I think I slept the rest of the day after that.

My doctor wanted me to have a colonoscopy and I balked at the idea, knowing how horrible the prep was. Instead, he ordered a new screening kit, which was delivered to my home. You send in a stool sampled and it is tested. I got back negative results, which was a good thing.

But now I wish I had the colonoscopy instead, because I seem to be having problems "down there" -- so I'm asking my new doc to set me up for one. Maybe it's lesions that are causing my problem, or maybe I have hemorrhoids. Don't know which, but I'd like to get the problem solved.

The type of kit you mention would not show the issues I had. The scope was needed to see the lesions and he removed them while he was there. The prep really wasn't that bad. Clear liquids the day before, 2 ducalax at noon, 64 oz. of Gatorade (the office told me I could use Chyrstal-Lite instead to avoid the sugar in Gatorade, which I did) mixed with 1 whole bottle of Miralax between 3 and 6 p.m., 2 more ducalax at 6 p.m. and an enema the morning of the procedure. I didn't mind the procedure itself at all. I remember being wheeled into the room and then a warm fuzzy feeling and waking up in recovery. Actually just felt like I had a great night's sleep.
