Female stuff

I have a question about "female stuff"

So, this month I only had a 2 day period and it was very light. That is unusual for me as I usually have a 6 day cycle. Im 3 months post op btw.

Is it normal to have some differences with your period while you lose weight? Im also wondering if I should take a pregnancy test just in case.

Hubby and I use condoms and I use the bc pill, so I dont think thats it. But now Im wondering because this whole 2 day cycle thing is really unusual for me. Maybe im just overthinking it.

2 days when your usual cycle was supposed to come? Or 2 days in between cycles? Assuming you haven't changed birth control pill brands recently too...

If it's the earlier I'd do a pregnancy test if only for the peace of mind. No sense wondering in angst when you can get a fast answer.

If it's the later, and/or if the test is negative I'd write it off to temperamental body adjusting (still) hormonally. Another month of the same and I'd go see my GYN.

For a little bit, my period was regular and on a schedule, which was new. Now I simply don't have one, which is new and not good. I am hoping now that I'm actively trying to settle around eating near my RMR at least I will fix a few health things. I don't know what you're eating, or how much and I don't want to give advice to eat more if you are still actively trying to lose, but the lack of calories may alter your cycle. Would maybe ask your OB about it, or just your GP about it like I did.

It's not unusual to have menstrual irregularities during the weight loss phase. Some women stop having their periods completely when they lose a large amount of weight. That is because hormones are fat soluble and during the weight loss phase they are released causing all sorts of havoc. Fortunately it is normal and temporary.

BUT do not forgo birth control during this time as many women become very fertile when they lose a large amount of weight. Assume you are fertile because you probably are. But enjoy having lighter periods or even no periods while it lasts. After a while your body will adjust and things will be back to normal.

Of course talk to your doctor (or ob/gyn) about it to make sure nothing out of the ordinary is going on. But I'm going to bet it's just the normal hormonal changes that come with the large amount of weight loss that your body is going through.

Absolutely! Estrogen is stored in fat, and as we lose fat the estrogen is released into our blood stream. Hormonal imbalances can always cause menstrual irregularities. I've heard staying hydrated and flushing your system out with a ton of water is helpful, but is in no way a sure fire remedy.

My periods were a mess for at least 18 months- some light, some super-heavy, irregular, etc. I think this is perfectly normal. Our hormones are a mess as we lose.

Hang in there.
