Topic: RE: Need new surgeon

I recently moved to Georgia and need to find a bariatric surgeon in the central part of the state to remove my Realize band. The port is sideways and I developed horrible reflux. Anyone one here have any suggestions? Thanks.

Topic: RE: gastric band and heart arrhythmias

Has anyone ever experienced an increase in irregular heartbeats with their gastric band?  I've had my band for 4 years now, and lately I've had an increase in PVCs (premature ventricular contractions).  I've had them completely checked out by cardiologists and even an electrophysiologist, they are benign but they are so bothersome because they are so numerous and I feel each and every one.  I've wondered about the placement of the band and any "hanging down" parts it may have and whether that or a possible slippage might be aggravating surrounding tissue which in turn stimulates my quirky heart patterns.

One of my previous cardiologists has mentioned my band on several occasions when I've had chest and neck pain that turned out not to be heart-related.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.  I have to follow up with my doctors this week for either medication changes or possible (but last resort) cardiac catheter ablation.

Thanks everyone.

Topic: RE: Billboard - Obesity is a disease.
You know, the argument could be made that adult-onset diabetes is a lifestyle choice (years of eating incorrectly, gaining too much weight, etc.); in fact, I think the medical profession may have claimed it as such.  Still, don't you get medical help to manage it?  I don't know anyone who would fault an adult diabetic with getting the medical care they need.  Why set aside obesity as having only a "mental" rather than physical aspect?

Obviously you need to do what you feel most comfortable with, but personally, I would never return to a doctor who was offended that you (in essence) got a "second opinion."  Any reputable doctor would encourage their patients to be as informed as possible.  I don't have ANY doctors who take offense at my seeking other doctors' opinions.  In fact, they usually encourage it.

I'd go somewhere else and report him to his governing authorities.  Even if they're in private practice, they ultimately have to answer to someone if they want to keep their licenses current.

Topic: RE: Plastic Surgeon says NO Implants?!
Regarding breast implants and mammograms, I got this from Mayo Clinic's website:

"Breast implants can obscure the mammogram images, decreasing the ability of mammograms to reveal breast cancer. Still, studies show that mammograms are an effective way to screen for breast cancer in women with breast implants.

If you have breast implants, you can take steps to make your mammogram more successful, such as:

  • Find a facility that sees many women with breast implants. Ask your doctor for a referral to a clinic whose radiologists have experience reading mammograms of women with breast implants. Ask the clinic about their experience when you make your appointment.
  • Speak up about your breast implants at your appointment. When you make your appointment and again when you arrive at your appointment, tell the staff that you have breast implants.

There's a slight risk that your breast implants may rupture during a mammogram. But the benefits of mammography in the early detection of breast cancer outweigh this risk."

Regarding lumpectomy and later plastic surgery, I wish more doctors would be upfront about the after effects and give us ALL options.  Let us make some of the decisions.

Topic: RE: I'll trade size 24 pants for size 22 pants

Anyone interested?  I've got several pair of size 24 pants/jeans that are just too big, and I can't fit into my size 20s yet.  Let me know what you've got in size 22 and we can work out the details of shipping, etc.

Thanks,
Jan

Topic: RE: LA Fitness Tragedy
My daughter and her family live in Bellevue PA, so we knew about it before most people here in Northern Kentucky.  She and her whole church are praying for the victims' families.  It's just unthinkable.  I can't imagine how you are feeling, having it happen so close to home.

Topic: RE: Eatin' good in the neighborhood...stormy Wednesday.
Hey Erin, my daughter and her family live in Bellevue.  She called tonight just as they were heading to the basement.  Her DH thought that would be best considering the old house they live in and the hail you guys were apparently getting.  Their satellite also went out just after the news said another tornado was possibly forming right across the river from them.

Hope everything goes well with the interview (and the rest of tonight's weather!!)

Jan (in Northern KY but would LOVE to be in Pittsburgh with my grandbabies!)
