Congratulations on your start to a healthier you. Because of my insurance, I had to meet with my regular PCP for 6 consecutive months, go to the Psychiatrist (1 was required but I went a few more times), pulmonologist, cardiologist, and a mandatory nutrition class. I started in September and had my surgery April 13th. (I could have had it done in March but I had a death in my family) It took my insurance 7 days to approve me.  My nerve hit when I went to the Dr. and I weighed 378lbs. My blood pressure (on meds) was still 150-160/80-90. Even though I'm tall and shapely, the scale gave me a wake up call. I have 2 children that need me. I'm 30 days post op and down 38 lbs so far. You do have to renew your mind, and you can do it. Good luck to you.

Start weight - 378 lbs

Surgery Weight - 368 lbs

5-13 - 340.2lbs

5-19 - 338.4lbs

Goal - 216lbs

I too am proactively doing the vitamins and supplements.  I have been very cautious and not purchased just one kind of protein supplement because of the possible change in taste preference post op.  So my pantry looks like a store shelf with a variety of brands and flavors.  What I don't like I will hold on to for a while and try again.  If I am still unable to tolerate it after a while, I will donate it to my support group and someone else can enjoy it.

I don't have my date yet as I was recently denied.  My surgeon's office is appealing and I hope in the next week or so I will hear good news.

oh and i also brought a couple of cases of the protein drink "PREMIER" from Costco and drink one every morning for breakfast on my way to work.  It has 30 grams of protein per 12oz carton.  So when i do my pre-op blood work (again) i can compare.

My Surgery is scheduled for may 24th and i am also horrified of thinning hair  i started taking BIOTIN Sublingual about 1 month now ..  i leave it in my cup holder in the car and never miss a day.  Just pop it under my tongue and let it dissolve.  I also purchased all my vitamins in liquid, chewables, patches and subligual and have started that also ..  i think i am well prepared.

good luck to you all

Got my sleeve April 14, 2016  and have lost over 10 pounds in 2 weeks. Never thought I would lose that much in a month because of my hypothyroidism!  Im 28 and weighed 273 pounds when I started my pre-op diet, with no medical issues besides my thryroid. Was a few months away from surgery in 2014 but got pregnant.  I was dead determined to do this for myself and then my family. But without insurance I was self-pay and went to Mexico,  with a wonderful experience there. Guess what I'm trying to say is you know why you want this and that you really need it, find a way to make it happen. Wishing you the best

Well you never know you might be a good candidate. For my insurance, the qualifications were that your BMI had to be under the morbid obese category but if it was not then you had to have a health issue related to your obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.

That's great I'm thinking about the gastric sleeve too. I have plans on talking to my doctor soon. Am so hopeful that she will say let's start but, chances are she wouldn't because I don't have any obesity related health issues... That is not what I want to hear but, I know it's a reality she might say

Challenges of me trying to lose weight is I can't eat anything! ( not really but it feels like it) am lactose intolerant, gluten sensitive and have a allergy to eggs... ?? I retain water!! But my doctor says that's because I don't drink enough. So if I lose 5 pounds and than drink let's say the eight glasses of water in a day. I will have gained 3 back ð??'IN A DAY! But am thinking of talking with my doctor about weight loss  surgery. And what my insurance will cover. My biggest concern right now is the recovery time and the aftereffects is far is nutrition because by me having so many food allergies.
