Topic: Life Plan Devotion #170 [extravagant love] & updates
Hi, Everyone.
This is what I wrote on my Facebook page yesterday: "Happiness is watching Dylan playing with Regan, outside, and having Dylan turn to me and say, 'See how much fun it is to have a dad, Nana?'" My grandson has never known an earthly father, and he is loving the attention. His grandfather loves Dylan, but a 9-year-old needs someone he can run with and throw a ball, etc. Dylan's love tank is filling up, and I'm so happy for him! Countdown to the wedding: 58 days.
I realized today that while I've always wanted my father's blessing, I've never received it. He's from the generation of "I put a roof over your head and food on the table. That's how I show my love, and if anything changes, I'll let you know." It's sad, really, because both he and I have missed out on so much, as father and daughter.
I recognized that my father's inability to speak words of blessing into my life has constributed to my feeling "less than" all my life. It truly has felt like a curse, and, along with the abuse I suffered in the past, left me struggling with seeing God as a Heavenly Father who loves me unconditionally (even though I know that to be a truth) and is totally enamored with me, and the result was that I suffered from depression and, I believe, contributed in some measure to my food issues.
I really wanted all of that taken care of today. I made an appointment with my pastor, and told him what has been going on. We talked for a time, and then he prayed over me. He spoke words of blessing over me and words of healing to my wounded heart. It was very precious, and I could literally feel a weight lift off me.
You know, I think we sometimes forget that we are body and spirit and soul. We tend to attend to the body, only, when we need to also attend to our soul (mind, will, and emotions). It all begins with attending to our spirit, by opening our heart up to Jesus, and accepting Him as Savior and Lord of our life. Until we work on all three, we will struggle in all three areas, in some way. It's something to think about.
Please pray for those having surgery today and those recovering from surgery. Express thanks to God for how He has blessed several of our OH friends, by opening doors to insurance coverage for WLS. :)
Life Plan Devotion #170 [extravagant love]
John 12:1-3 [NLT] "Six days before the Passover celebration began, Jesus arrived in Bethany, the home of Lazarus--the man He had raised from the dead. A dinner was prepared in Jesus' honor. Martha served, and Lazarus was among those who ate with Him. Then Mary took a twelve-ounce jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Jesus' feet with it, wiping His feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance."
Mary's faith in Jesus and love for Him is a testimony to us all. Scripture records that she knelt in humble faith and love at Jesus' feet three times. Mary sat at Jesus' feet, listening to His every word (Luke 10:39); she fell at His feet, crying and seeking comfort (John 11:32); and here in John 12:1-3, she knelt to anoint Jesus' feet with expensive perfume, a sign of her extravagant love for Him. Jesus was first in Mary's heart, and she surrendered herself to Him.
What this has to do with weight loss: The decision to surrender all we are and have to God is a crucial step in the weight-loss process and all that entails. When we surrender to Him, He will help us with our weight-loss problems, whatever they may be.
Today, decide how you can pour out your extravagant love for and to the Lord. Whatever that is, do it today. Listen to Shawna and Terry MacAlmon, as they sing "My God and King." [lyrics follow, if you'd like to sing your love] http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=W7ZKzVxq35w
My God and King
To You alone I sing
You're the face I see
For all eternity [repeat]
Chorus:
You'd be my dream come true
Just to be with You
How I'd see brand new
With eyes for only You
My God and King
Through the storm I sing
Covered by Your wing
This song of love I bring
Chorus x 2
You are my dream come true
[rest of chorus; repeating final line 2 times more]
I have eyes for only You.
Blessings,
Mary

Topic: Life Plan Devotion #169 [raising the dead]
Hi, Everyone.
For those of you *****ad what I wrote yesterday, about my father [Devotion #168], I want to give you an amazing update. No, we haven't talked, he and I, but...something amazing happened today.
As many of you know, I've experienced abuse in my life...more than once. It caused me to ask, "What is wrong with me?" Surely, there is something wrong with me, for in all those instances, the common denominator was me.
Well, today, I played back my father's two answer machine messages, and in the second one he says, quite angrily, "What is wrong with you, Lou Ann?" [my middle name].
As I heard him ask the question that I have asked over and over, it hit me. There is nothing wrong with me! I'm not cursed, I'm not inadequate, I'm not broken, I don't wear a sign that says "Go ahead, do what you want with me." I'm not a victim, I'm not fragile. There is absolutely nothing wrong with me!
I don't know what my father wanted to accomplish by asking me the question, "What is wrong with you?" but it really doesn't matter, because today, God raised me from the dead!
Life Plan Devotion #169 [raising the dead]
John 11:3, 6, 32, 39-40, 43-44 [NLT] "The two sisters [Mary and Martha] sent a message to Jesus telling Him, 'Lord, your dear friend is very sick.' [Jesus] stayed where He was for the next two days... When Mary arrived and saw Jesus [who had finally come], she fell at His feet and said, 'Lord, if only You had been here, my brother would not have died.' 'Roll the stone aside,' Jesus told them. But Martha, the dead man's sister, protested, 'Lord, he has been dead for four days. The smell will be terrible.' Jesus responded, 'Didn't I tell you that you would see God's glory if you believe?' Then Jesus shouted, 'Lazarus, come out!' And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound in grave clothes, his face wrapped in a head cloth. Jesus told them, 'Unwrap him and let him go!'" [Note: Information added in brackets by author, for clarity.]
In the interest of space, I chose a minimum of verses from chapter 11, to tell the story of Lazarus. I would encourage you to read the entire account of the raising of Lazarus (John 11:1-44). This is one of my favorite stories, because it shows how, despite the desperation of cir****tances, God knows what is going on, He has a plan, and it is good.
Mary and Martha did the right thing. They sent a message to let Jesus know that the friend He loved was sick, and they asked Him to come. They knew He was the only one who could help their brother, Lazarus, to get well. But Jesus did not come, and Lazarus died.
Can you feel the question mark hovering over Lazarus' family? Can you feel their confusion, their disappointment, their grief? I can. What do you do when it looks like God is not answering your prayer, is not meeting your need? You do what Mary and Martha did--you do what needs to be done, and you wait for the Master to come. When He does, you find out that even when He's four days late, He's still right on time.
What this has to do with weight loss: Most of us who choose weight-loss surgery do so because we have (or will have) so many health issues that something must change, and soon. Perhaps we have been seeking God to remove those health issues, only to find that nothing changes. Then we pursue weight-loss surgery, and life changes for the better. Perhaps we are waiting for insurance to approve our surgery or we are trying to find the money to pay for weight-loss surgery. Where is God? Is He late? No. His answer is right on time, and it may be a combination of weight-loss surgery and healing.
Today, Jesus says to you, "Come out from your death cave!" Give Him all the glory, and He will make sure your death wrappings are removed. Listen to Karen Peck, as she sings "Four Days Late." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTLl7C77gSc

Mary

Topic: Life Plan Devotion #168 [Follow] & my father [Oy, vey!]
Hi, Everyone.
My father called me today. He was angry with me. Long story...much past stuff...yuck. I tried to do the right thing, take the high road, by telling him that I didn't think this was the right time to talk (since he was so angry). Anyway, he kept going on and on. I finally hung up, because I was crying and didn't want him to hear me cry. Well, you don't hang up on your 78-year-old father. He was livid then, and he called back twice, leaving scathing answer machine messages.
I forgive him. Wounded people wound. I know that. It's some consolation.
After spending a few hours feeling like poo, though, I knew I needed to go to prayer, and lay it down at the Cross. Imagine my surprise, though, when, fairly early on in prayer, I hear the Holy Spirit gently say, "Idolatry."
"What?! Idolatry? What do You mean, Lord?" He sure had my attention, as I waited to hear His answer.
"When you allow anyone or anything other than God to tell you who you are, you replace God with that person or thing, and that is idolatry."
Wow! I was allowing my father and his opinion of me to color how I saw myself. [Yes, I do realize I'm 53 years old.] By doing that, I've allowed my father to be an idol in my life, replacing my Heavenly Father. I've been mulling it over all evening, and the Lord is right. His (God's) opinion is the only one that counts.
What if I hadn't listened for my Shepherd's voice, for the guidance I so needed today. I would feel upset, discouraged, depressed, and abandoned. As long as I keep my focus on my Heavenly Father, I feel calm, encouraged, joyful, and accepted as His beloved.
Thanks for letting me share. May it encourage you to listen ever closely to the Shepherd. Have a blessed day. Please pray for those having surgery today and those recovering from surgery. Let's lift each other up in prayer.

John 10:2-4 [NLT] "The one who enters through the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep recognize his voice and come to him. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice."
A shepherd knows each of his sheep by name, and they know and respond only to his voice. In like manner, Jesus knows our personality, needs, feelings, and desires. He even knows our faults and our sins, yet He still loves us. He calls out to us and leads us in the way that is best for us. To be set free from whatever is painful in our lives, we must respond to the guiding voice of our Shepherd, who knows us best and loves us most.
What this has to do with weight loss: Those of us with food issues have been following our thoughts of food for far too long. It's time to follow a new "shepherd." Jesus is the Good Shepherd, and He will lead us if we are His sheep and will consent to following Him. We must listen for His voice, though. He will speak to us, even about what to eat, if we want Him to do so.
Today, respond to the voice of the Shepherd, as He leads and guides you. Listen to the Gaither Friends singing a medley of "Gentle Shepherd" and "I Will Serve Thee."

Topic: Life Plan Devotion #167 [Now, I see]
Hi, Everyone.
For those of you following "the romance of the century," wedding plans are progressing. Saturday, Leah and Regan drove to Wichita, to register at JC Penneys and Target...nothing fancy, just the basics to set up house. Regan wasn't particularly thrilled to spend the day walking the aisles of stores, although being with Leah would be fun, he said. Leah, wise woman that she is, gave Regan the scanner (he called it 'the zapper'), and that injected a bit of fun for him. After they returned, Leah changed clothes, and they met a gal from our church, went to several places around town, and took engagement pictures. I can't wait to see those pictures. I have my dress for the wedding. It's champagne colored. I have a jewelry set that I found on ebay, which I received that Saturday. It matches my dress perfectly. The dress looks better on the hangar than it does on me, but it's better than going in slacks. Countdown to the wedding: 68 days.
Please pray for those having surgery today and this week, and remember those who are recovering from surgery. Let's lift each other up in prayer, as well.
Life Plan Devotion #167 [Now, I see]
John 9:6-7 [NLT] "Then [Jesus] spit on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and spread the mud over the blind man's eyes. He told him, 'Go wash yourself in the pool of Siloam' (Siloam means 'sent'). So the man went and washed and came back seeing!" [Note: Pronoun changed to proper noun and inserted in brackets by author, for clarity.]
Just picture that! Jesus spits, makes mud, and rubs it on a blind man's eyes. I don't know about you, but my first reaction is "Eww." Then I think, "Wow! That man had spectacular, spiritual spit on his eyes!" Why? Because Jesus wanted the man to walk to the Pool of Siloam and wash the mud off. He wanted the man to make the decision to obey, to be willing to do "the hard thing," which, for him, would have been to make the trek down the hill to the pool, even though he could not see the way. He did, and he came back with his sight, both physical and spiritual.
What this has to do with weight loss: Obese believers often pray for God to take away their desire for food. The better prayer would be, "God, help me to eat with thanksgiving and discipline." God will do His part, if you will do your part. It will not be easy, but God always honors obedience.
Today, what would you like to see "healed" in your life? Are you willing to "do the hard thing," to receive that healing? If you're interested in the historical and archaeological evidence of Bible accuracy, watch a 7-minute [or so] video of the excavation of the Pool of Siloam http://www.tangle.com/view_video?viewkey=b72a7ae443a8d8fbdad 1 and/or listen to "Amazing Grace" by Chris Tomlin http://www.tangle.com/view_video?viewkey=8a6274ea1a6de369bd9 a.

Good morning everyone! Time to rise and shine! It is gonna be a wonderful day, and week! Got to get up and get the day and week going. I know, I know, too early or don't want to, but just think, you are alive and you are ABLE BODIED! Too much to be thankful for!
That is our challenge today. Realize how much, JUST HOW MUCH, you have to be thankful for. No! Thanksgiving isn't here yet, and it is a month away, but EVERYDAY should be Thanksgiving. We should think and be thankful everyday for what we have. It may not be the exact things or come when we think it should, but we are some blessed people! We have roofs over our heads, comfortable beds, clothes to wear, cars to drive, food to eat, and jobs to provide for our families and ourselves. What do we and WHY do we want to grumble and complain? C'mon! Be thankful today! You have SO MUCH to be thankful for!
So, who's up this morning? What cha sippin' on? Me? I'm enjoying my Folgers and my quiet time. Good to the last drop........and minute!
Have a great day and know you are too blessed to be stressed!!

Thank you for understanding, and letting me be me. I truly believe that my therapist and psychiatrist are in my life because knew I needed them at this time. There was a time when people told me that I should only go to Christian therapists. Well, they were few and far between when I was first being diagnosed, and few were qualified to deal with my diagnoses. Not to mention my insurance would not pay for the needed therapy because the Christian ones were not in the network. God gave me a dear Christian friend who has been there since 1993 to help me process my sessions in the light of His Word. She prays for my therapists and me and she helps me so much.
I see my therapist today. I am hoping for some breakthroughs. Please pray as I really don't want to give up a certain behavior right now. It is not drinking nor drugs. But it is pretty bad.

Well you just whine all you want that's what we're here for and we all need a good whine session now and then! Glad the rent situation is better and I'm sure the check will turn up. I sure know how the pain issue goes too cause I have fibromyalgia and ever since I broke my leg a couple of months ago it's just been horrible and having to do physical therapy for it just makes it worse. Even my pain meds aren't helping much. I hope you do well with your therapy sessions. I know God is using this as a tool to help you heal and grow but it's never an easy road. I'm sure one day you'll look back and be glad you went thru all this. You know I'll be praying for your strength and guidance just remember how much our God loves you! God bless!!!

Well, God answers prayer. I went into the apartment complex office this afternoon after work, and found out that things are not as bad as I had thought. But, the women with whom I spoke could not find the check I had dropped off, so that is a concern. Pray that they locate it on Monday.
I am struggling with the food, and some other negative behaviors that are causing my therapist and psychiatrist to be on the alert. I see my therapist on Saturday, and am sure it will be an intense session. I would appreciate prayer, as I am so depressed and so overwhelmed, I have lost hope for a lot of things.
My body aches are worse than I ever remember. We are having a Nor'easter storm here, which is causing cold rain, and the dampness is just horrific. My depression is also bad as well.
Thanks for allowing me to share my needs here. I hate being whiny, but I appreciate your compassion here.
Hugs,
Trish

Topic: Friday Coffee Talk
Good Friday morning everyone! I hope you slept as good as I did. It may have been a short sleep...about 5 hours, but it was a good sleep. Restful sleep and peaceful! It sure is cool this morning and I am loving it. I think it is a porch rockin', coffee sippin' morning!
Our challenge for today is to call someone and encourage them. You will never know how much that phone call might mean to someone. I have known of people that felt the need or urge to call someone only to find a person on the other end about to com mitt suicide or maybe in the middle of a deep depression and just needing to hear a few encouraging words. There is power in your words. You can hurt or you can love with your words. We need to build one another up in this society in which we live. I dare you to call someone, ONE PERSON, today and encourage them! I know you can do this.
So, who's up this morning? What cha sippin' on? Me? I'm loving me some Folgers in my cup! Gotta love it. Nothing like waking and having that first sip in the morning!
Lucy's mom will be having her 3rd surgery today. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She has 2 different bacterial infections going on in her incision. They have to open it up, clean it really good and get all that out.
Well, the heat just kicked on and I'm about to head to the front porch and enjoy a cup. Have a wonderful day as you encourage someone else!! BE BLESSED!
