So, 1 week post op and looking forward to trying to cook with quinoa (have ever even tried it before!), so that is on the list and some sleepy time tea (hoping they carry that)...anything else?

You can use quinoa much as you would rice. Unless the package says it is pre-rinsed, make sure and rinse it first. Then cook it with 2 parts liquid, one part quinoa.

I like to use chicken broth as the liquid and throw some mushrooms in the quinoa. To be honest, I have not used quinoa since my WLS, mainly because it has carbs. 34 carbs per cup in it's cooked form. I may look at using it when I am nearing my goal.

Is Bulk Barn a store? I've never heard of it, but it sounds like my kind of place.

I too use quinoa in place of rice. To me, white rice is a completely useless food, except to hold my sushi rolls together. Yes, quinoa has some carbs, so I wouldn't use it as a main protein source because of that but to me is superior to rice,.

I thinks it's still too bland by itself, so I like to eat it cold with sliced veggies and salad dressing, sort of like a summer salad. I like it in savory dishes too, and if it's used under a bed of chicken or something, I like it cooked in stock, or drenched in butter (yay DS!).

Sleepy time is one of my favorite teas, second only to their Red Zinger. Sorry I don't have ideas on what you can buy there, because I don't even know where it is, but now I have to leave the computer because you made me start thinking about a hot cup of tea.

Quinoa, isn't very DS friendly you can try it if you want. Some people tolerate it well but, yes, it is high carb. It is true that it has ore trotein than other grains and is a good choice after you have lost your weight. Quinoa does not hold up to long storage and goes rancid faster than other grains so I always buy small amounts. It's not something to buy in bulk unless you are cooking it for a crowd on a regular basis.

We cook quinoa here but I eat only a little. You can put it in a rice cooker to cook it up- make sure you rinse first. To keep it from going rancid you can also place it in your freezer then use only what you need when its time to cook it up. An excellent grain for your family too. Lots of protein too
