Need Surgeon

Looking for a surgeon in the Kansas City area that does the DS surgery? Also does Medicare pay for this surgery ?

There are some good ones in Topeka, if you want to drive an hour down the road. Tallgrass surgery clinic.

I am doing really good, And you ? I am checking out for my son. But I really don't want to go to Chicago again. I have gained about 20 lbs back, and I hate it. I just need to eat better. Thank you for asking.

Tallgrass is the only ones I know of and they are kind of strict on their requirements.  MISH in Lenexa is a bait-and-don't-switch who will try to convince you to do a RNY.  I went to Dr. Gary Anthone in Omaha, Nebraska and so did my sister (my daughter will be having her DS with him in about 7 months).  Dr. Harlan Opie in Olathe does the sleeve but not the full DS.   Medicare paid for mine and they are paying for my revision, too.  

I first went to Mish before I had my surgery and she had only done 4  DS surgeries and she wanted to do it in two surgeries I didn't feel comfortable a all with Mish. I am checking for my son. I had mine done in Chicago I loved my surgeon but I don't want to go that far. Thank you for youa advice.

I can highly recommend Bernita Berntsen at Tallgrass in Topeka.  I do not know much about their Medicare requirements, however.

She typically does the DS lap.

I also consulted with Dr. Anthone in Omaha.  He was very nice and very experienced.

He does the DS open.

Who are all the DS surgeons at Tallgrass?  Are any on the vetted list of DS surgeons?  Is Bernita still doing the DS?

Bernita Berntsen did my DS, and she does several each month. Google Tallgrass bariatric Topeka for info. I think there are 4 surgeons at Tallgrass, and they all work together. Berntsen is very good, IMO.

There are two DS surgeons at Tallgrass:

Bernita Berntsen, MD, FACS
Carlyle Dunshee II, MD, FACS

Dr. Berntsen is on the vetted list on dsfacts.com.  She has had numerous happy patients on this board who campaigned hard to have her listed.

Dr. Dunshee does the DS as well... Both for a number of years.  Each one assists the other when performing the DS.  So you get two experienced DS surgeons working together when you choose either doctor.  That's a deal...
