Hi everyone!   I'm stoked about the race next weekend.   I got my bib and corral info.  I'm 9155 .... Purple!

I'm picking up my race packet at the Expo on Friday.

This will be my first Broad Street Run.   Any sage advice or stories from any past runners?

I did run 10 miles the day in training so I know I can do it ... it's just not going to be super fast!

I also just joined the Philly Fit training program for the Philadelphia Marathon in November!   I'm thinking Half Marathon right now ... but who knows what this training might bring!

Hi - I am also doing the Broad Street Run!!  I am bib 20811 - Gray!!  I am so looking forward to this race!

I am also thinking about the Phila Marathon - I will make my decision in June - I figure I will need to begin hard core marathon training mid-June / beginning of July.

Good luck Saturday to both of you!!  Excuse my stupidity, but what is the Broad Street Run.

Setting goals are so important for all of us.  Running a half or a marathon is pretty dang cool.  I kept thinking about how before the surgery I couldn't walk a mile much less run 13.1.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks!

Broad Street Run: They expect about 20K runners this year.

Course: A 10-mile, point-to-point course (named one of the fastest 10-mile courses in the country by Runner's World) starts at the Central High School Athletic Field at Broad Street and Somerville Avenue. The course is a pleasing run past the varied neighborhoods of Philadelphia along Broad Street. It finishes inside the Philadelphia Navy Yard at the end of Broad Street in South Philadelphia. There are eleven water stations, digital clocks at each Mile, aid stations, port-a-potties, entertainment and numerous ambulances on the course. The course is traffic-free in the south-bound lanes and monitored by police. This course is certified by USATF.

Yeah Philly runners! (I live in West Chester)   Maybe I'll train for the half marathon too.  I did run a full marathon with TNT in 1998 (San Francisco) it took me 6 hours - lordy too long.  I'm just too slow for a full marathon, but a half might be reasonable.  I'll check out Philly Fit.

Have you run in any of the Chester County Running Company's Grande Prix races?  I've done 2 of them - I don't know how many of them there are, but they run all year.  I think if you complete all of the races, you can win a pair of running shoes!!

Somehow, I got on the Chester County Running Company's e-mail list.  If you haven't checked it out - you should!  They seem to offer a lot of clinics and seminars.  Unfortunately, I live in Jersey - it is just too much to head over to West Chester on a weeknight for a running clinic.

I'm doing the Broad Street Run on Sunday.  It's my second time.  Did it last year.  The one thing that really surprised us last year is how cold it was prior to the race.   Bring some throw away sweats and ditch them at the starting line.

This is a great race.  The first five to six miles down to City Hall is a gradual downhill or flat.  The rest is just flat.  The weather looks like we might be in for rain.

There are mobs of people, bands, frats, sororities out there cheering you on.  Just enjoy the race.  Don't get too caught up in the start and burn out trying to go at someone else's pace.

I'm also in the purple corral (8xxx?).  Make sure you arrange a meeting place at the end because it is packed.

Good luck to you.
