Turns out Moto as well as Tommasso are older cos. that  went out of business. The bikes selling online are made by USA ie. Moto USA, and are not the same as the old company not even affiliated.  Bummer.

personally I am going to avoid the tripple like the plague.
I have had nothing but problems with mine.  The mechanic advised to stay away from them as well.  In his opinion they are finnicky at best.  I just read a snipped from bicycle magazine that said the same thing they said that triples are notoriously difficult shifters and very touchy.  Both the mechanic and the magazine recommended getting a compact double.
It weighs less and is likely to have less shifting issues.

I'm actually heading out to get the bike fitted for a new front derailleur today, because the old one (a triple) won't shift into the large chain ring on a consistant basis.

But you have got to get what works for you.  Just sharing my experience.  Ride the bikes, see how it works for you

I have a copy of this years bicycle buying guide, it lists top 10 or so bikes in each class their price range, pros and cons etc.  It looks like most of their reviews are available online as well.

They have reviews on all kinds of stuff besides bikes, computers, parts etc.

Just chiming in on the triple issue: I'd avoid it too.  Granted I don't really live in a hilly state (I've got some 8% - 9% climbs near me that are about 1/2 mile of climbing and other than it's pretty flat.  When I was out West last summer and riding through Utah/Seattle areas I got to ride on some pretty nice hills but even there I rarely touched the granny ring and could've made do without it.
My biggest issue is that with my triple set-up I have at least 2 cogs for each chainring that I can't use due to bad chain-rub.  If you go with a double you'll be get less rub and for at least Ultegra/Durace (I know it's way above what you're looking for) you can trim the front derailure to avoid this.

If you decide to go online you can get a good deal on certain bikes. I just bought a Specialized Roubaix Comp compact from the bike shop near me. I spent a lot of time there investigating and picking their brain on what was the best bike for my needs.

If you buy online, take it to a reputable bike shop and spend $50 to have them fit you to the bike, it's worth it to get yourself the proper fit.

Wow, bike fits are cheap where you are!

(They run more like $125 to 250 here.)

That's probably about right, the advertise fittings for 50+. Since I bought my bike there they did the fitting for free. Then if you throw in the carbon handle bar extension, I'm sure it would have been at least $100.

I guess that's another thing factor in when buying online.

They threw in a carbon handle bar extension? I got a free water bottle! LOL

I think if you are a good negotiator, you can get some extra stuff thrown in and get them to lower some prices. I don't think you'll get your bike for 50% off though.

I am not a good negotiator so I just assume I'm going to pay full price and factor that into my comparisons. I do get 10% off a lot of places with my tri club membership and there are a few places where I can get 20%, at least some of the time. So now I wait until I can get 20% to buy anything.

Today I passed a guy on a Cervelo. (Yes, it felt good.) So it's not always about the bike.

That said... shiny new toys are fun!
