You're sweet. Thanks for the encouragement. Is it fairly common for people to do both (walk and run)? I used to do 5ks and it was not uncommon for people to do both during the race. I know outside of 5ks it gets much more serious and I have no clue.

I will be doing a mixture of running and walking during my half marathon on Nov 1st.

Absolutely.
just break your run up into pieces that you can handle without causing injury.
Every mile I run, I'm going to walk 2 minutes or something like that.  Then I'm going to try for another mile.  Or run from aid station to aid station.
It may get more serious for some, but it is also much more difficult.
The only limitation put on an event is what you put on it.
Unless the race has a cutoff time.  Some races will tell you that you must complete it within x number of hours or maintain a certain pace.
Looking at most of them you could almost walk the entire distance in that pace.  So when you mix in a little jogging you can make it without any issues.

If your goal is to FINISH then YES you can do it!   If you are pushing for a time goal you will risk injury.

You can accelerate a training program (most of which will have you running 30, 45 or 60 mins during the week with the long run on the weekend.  Most training programs start with a base of being able to run 3 miles so your not ahead of the game.    If you want to do it, you can.  Listen to your body.

Most training programs for halfs will get you up to 10 or 11 miles.

The other thing you might want to consider is using Intervals in training and race day to get the distance in.     Like run 3-4 walk 1 minute.    This gives your muscles a chance to recover.

Great advice! Thank you. I've looked up several training calenders or methods and it does seem like the first couple of weeks are averaging what I've been doing for the past year. I know I can run longer (more than 3 miles at one time), but I truly haven't had the time to test myself. I have two children, full time job, and my husband has a very high demand job so I'm a busy bee!
I'm sure there are a lot of people that can relate and their pulling it off. I can do it. I just have to get serious. Oh and yes, my goal is just to cross that finish line. Thanks again. Great advice!

I will be at White Rock also running the marathon!!

You can do it if you want to.  Like these guys said mix in some walk and some run and don't worry about time.  You will finish and it will be a milestone in your life.

Good luck!

Break it down into a bunch of 5ks if you feel comfortable with that.
Or run from aid station to aid station, walk a little bit and then try for the next aid station.

You can certainly complete it, but it just depends on what your goal is for the race or how you rate your success.

Good luck and have fun.  Don't hurt yourself trying for everything at once.

Thank you for the encouragement. Yes, my goal is just to cross that finish line in one piece. LOL!
I like to think I'm in good shape, but I have no experience outside of doing 5ks. I know these sort of things are for the "more experienced runners". I can't get running it off my mind. I badly want to do this. It will happen. Thanks again for the encouragement!!
