Runners -- when did you start?
I remember when I started my journey. It was tough! I thought I would die too. I realized that my goal was too lofty and needed a reality check. I settled with a goal of 12 minutes. I would go as fast as I could for 12 minutes. It is almost as if the clock stopped. You know...there was regular time and then there was my treadmill time...The clock seemed to move slower.
The key was what I said to myself. If I thought I could do and kept up that consistent thought - I would make it. But I also had to realize that there was a monkey on my back. It's message was "stop...walk...you can't do it". I had to combat each and every second with my stated goals.
I made little phrases and I ran to them. It took my mind off my pain and it kept the monkey at bay.
Try setting a small goal and listen to what your monkey is saying to you!

I started about a month out from my surgery at a BMI of 35. I used the couch to 5k program and it helped a lot.
