1st Half Marathon IN THE BAG!!!!
Congratulations on completing your first half. It is such an awesome feeling when you pass that finish line. But come on, 42 degrees, I would be running in shorts! Don't worry about your times, because if your having fun and pushing yourself nothting else really matters. I am also goal oriented, and need to have something to train toward (other than good health). Good luck in the future! Now get back out there.

THANK YOU to everyone for the good wishes and congratulations. It took me a couple of days to recover but I felt wonderful today. I can't tell you how much encouragement I get from reading the posts on this forum. It's my favorite exercise resource!
Some of the things I did in preparation for the race included seeing a chiropractor to get my spine in alignment after years of supporting excess weight. Amazing! You think running is addicting? My back and neck haven't felt this good and loose in years. Along with the alignment he also does deep tissue work on my legs. I'm positive it has helped the way I run.
Another thing I tried were Vibram Fivefinger shoes, if you can call them shoes. They are barely more than rubber coating for the bottom of the feet but they too have changed the way I run, more specifically the way my feet impact the ground. I did not wear them on race day because I was concerned about the temperature (42 IS cold, I tell ya) but in retrospect I really wish I had. I plan to wear them in Boston in May for my next 1/2 marathon.
Also, because it was so cold, I dug out my Nike Hatphones! Hatphones are microfleece beanies with miniature speakers sewn into them next to the ears and a hidden pocket for your mp3 player! I made up a new playlist with about 3 1/2 hours of my absolutely favorite songs (so I wouldn't be tempted to fast forward) and hit 'play' about a minute before the gun start. I was in heaven, and no painful earbuds in my ears! It really made all the difference in perceiving how the time went as I ran. I do a lot of training on the treadmill while watching TV so this was a real treat for me. I truly forgot how helpful music is on the journey. I credit some of my success to Sam Cooke, Van Morrison, Frankie Valli, the Rolling Stones, Coldplay, Billy Joel, Madonna and Herb Alpert. The list goes on.
Tomorrow will be my first post race run. I'll be doing 4 miles. I did a 3 mile walk Monday, Tuesday and today at lunch. I can't believe I now consider 4 milesa 'regular' run!
Again... thank you to everyone here. I love you guys!!!!

I am so inspired! I am training for my first 1/2 marathon in May and I hope to do another one in October. Your information has been most helpful! :)
