OH JB!!!!    Just told my hubby about the Vegas Half Marathon! I may have to look that one up!!!  Haven't been in a number of years. Have walked the entire stip (with a VERY TALL Strawberry Daquiri in hand), running would be wonderful!!
Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.

It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

Seriously it's a blast (albeit a *****illy surprisingly). Keep me posted if you want to do it. I usually go with a large-ish group. I've also helped other folks train for their first race so if you want some help I'd be more than happy to get you going. You can read about my last candidate here

Read it. How fun and Inspiring!  I am hoping to do my first (competitive) Half on August 7th. It is the Tacoma Narrows Half Marathon, over the infamous Tacoma Narrows Bridge.  I did bookmark and FB the Vegas Half. I will have a better idea mid-summer if December in Vegas is going to be doable.
As for chilly.... I ran in 35 degree temp on Thanksgiving. Washington "chilly" is a bit different than Vegas or SoCal chilly I think. LOL.  Chilly here means there is frost on the pumpkins!

Thanks again....let's keep in touch!

If you can run 8, you can run 13.1!!!!

The key with the first one is to just focus on finishing....and take your time. The biggest mistake most people make is to try and run too fast. 13 miles is a long way to go. If you are running 11 minutes a mile over nearly 9, expect it to take you 13 or 14 over the race.

I am sure that if you have gotten this far, the next step will be (relatively speaking) easy!!!

Keep us updated!

I had weight loss surgery. I did it the easy way.

Thanks Blair! I am going to work up over the next few weeks to a 13 mile run, and see if I can do it at around 2:45. On the plus side, all my routes around home have hills...so running a fairly flat half would be nice!  I think just finishing would be totally cool, and I KNOW I CAN FINISH...
