Team Race Report Thread
Hello everyone,
I'll let each of the other runners post their experiences if they choose, but I just wanted to let you know we did have a team run this weekend.
Dan, his wife Christie, Brian, and myself all participated in the Run for Red 10k race this weekend. Dan's son Ayden also ran the kids 1k race.
Dan took second place in his age group, Christie missed 3rd place by a step, Brian P.R.'d and finished 4th in his age group, I P.R.'d and finished 7th in my age group.
It was a nice enough day, the course was nice, mostly flat with a couple gentle inclines. There was a little threat of rain and it did drizzle on us a bit right at the start.
Our times are a little funky because for some unknown reason they pulled up the timing mats at the starting line after the 5k runners left. So while we all had timing chips, we didn't have the benefit of an exact time.
The race started, and that would be the last time I would see Dan or Christie, they were off. I fell in between them and Brian, who seemed to know his pace and did a great job keeping it.
The mileage was not marked on the course, and I forgot to bring my Garmin so it was all guess work for me on distances until I got back to the start finish area. The 10k race was two laps of the 5k course.
Anyhow as usual I started out too fast and paid for it. I hadn't run outside since before the winter season started, and I felt every step of it. Around mile 2 Brian caught up with me and left me for dead, or at least that's how I felt. I was just plodding along like dead man jogging.
The second lap around the course felt much more comfortable, but I just couldn't seem to go any faster. The good news was that I wasn't having any shin splints and my breathing had calmed down, I felt pretty good. I was just slower than I wanted to be.
I think the official time showed that I ran a 9:48 pace give or take because of the timing mats.
My time was right about 1 hour. This was my second 10k and it was an improvement over my first one by about 20 minutes.
Very happy yet disappointed. I got a P.R., but I felt like I should have been able to run even faster and not tire so quickly at the beginning.
Have a great day.
Scott

Every morning in Africa , a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.

It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.
