Registered for the "To HILL and Back" 8K
I signed up for my first 8K. Next Sunday. I found out today, at the running store, that the last 3/4 of the race is 8% - 10% hills. The last 2/10ths of a mile is downhill slightly.
GOOD NEWS: Woman at running store said that the Half Marathon route in August (which will be my first) is "easy" compared to the topography of this 8K. Hmmmmmm.....
Guess I will see how much my runs around home have helped! Every course around home, whether my 2 mile or my 10.5 mile, is comprised of hills and long inclines, and some pretty vicious down hills as well. SO WE WILL SEE!
Very excited to wear my Post Op PR's team shirt next week!!

Every morning in Africa , a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.

It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

my knee injury makes downhill super painful, so if I have to do hills, UP is the way i wanna go!
Good luck on that 8K - you're gonna do the team proud!

Hey Mary!
I did go to the running store there on Kimball. They watched me walk, etc. I'm a Neutral, which is good for me!
Regading the 8K, yes it's the Maritime Gig, under a new name.
It's starting down at the QFC on Judson, then along water to head of harbor then up the hill on the New Cushman Trail.
I did a 3.24 hill workout today, and cannot seem to break my 10:00 pace! UGH! But it will be fun no matter what!
Let me know how your practice run goes!

I went in the afternoon with a friend and we ended up doing 6.4 miles! We know the start of the route but ince we got to the end of the second part of Cushman trail we were not sure of the route so we went on to the other part of the Cushman trail past the park and ride and then back up grandview;I think. I forgot my Garmin so am unsure of the pace but it is definately not under 10! My last 10K pace was 11. I think we are doing it again Wednesday after work. I will have to miss Zumba but I think it will be worth it!
I am glad you liked the running store! I bought a third pair of Asics there a few months ago but for asome reason I keep getting hot spots. I am going in this week to see if itiis a sock shoe combo or if I just need to get another new pair.

I think when you come up the hill towards Kimball from the harbor, you get back on the trail for a bit, then down hollycroft to Reid to Jutson again. the map is a bit confusing, but I'm going to blow it up and try to put it on www.mapmyrun.com tomorrow. If successful, I will let you know..it will show the elevation and mile markers which could be helpful to guage pace. I have not invested in a Garman or anything like that yet.
Breaking in new shoes after next weekend.
I'm taking a few days off this week, due to an addition to our family, so I may go out there early Wed. or Thurs.
