Topic: Medication Absorbtion

Does anyone know if the RNY can alter the way medicaitons are absorbed? I have noticed that I am becoming increasingly anxious and depressed and have been on my Celexa since surgery. I am curious as to whether or not the malabsorbtion of nutrients also includes how medications are absorbed into my system.

Thanks,

Katie

Good Morning..

Today I am grateful..

That five years ago I had this life saving surgery..

For Yvonne for answering the email that led to me having the surgery.. I love you..

For Debra who still talks to me although I ignored her for a year..  I love you..

For all the friends, and enemies, that I have made since the surgery they have made me what I am today..

For being able to pay it forward.. Please take your vitamins..

I did disclosed my addictions and depression to my surgeon. I did not have to go to any extra lengths to be approved for my surgery. My first appt was april 1 and I had surgery on June 25th.

Good luck on your journey. Send me a message if you need support.

Hugs, Leslie

yep, that would be us. It is a very quiet board. Best thing to do is get friends. I do check the board everyday when I check online...

I am on wellbutrin and lexapro. I have no problem taking them and I do not have to crush them.

Good Luck,
Leslie

If you have disclosed to your surgeon that you have a mental illness have you had to have a different or more involved psych clearance than other patients without a mental illnes history?

Cross addictions, addictions it's the right place.  If you don't get responses don't give up.

Is this the forum where people would talk about cross addictions, or is that subject taboo on OH?

I finally got the right diagnosis - and while I do not have depression - I have bipolar with rapid cycling and a tendency to be depressive.
I do know that many medications can NOT be crushed.
I have tried a variety of medications since surgery 5 years ago.
Zoloft - did nothing
Effexor - worked for about 6 months
Effexor TR - worked well (in part due to the time release factor), but my new doctor took me off of it and put me onto
Pristiq  and Depakote - The Pristiq is working well for me and so is the Depakote. I do know neither of them can be crushed. (I have only been on the Pristiq for 6 months and the Depakote for 3 months - so time may yet tell.)
Keep in mind that for many people over time they have to change their medications for illnesses like bipolar and depression as the brain changes the chemical imbalance once again.

I have been on Cymbolta for many years and am finally on the right dose.  I was told by one surgeon that I would have to change my medication because it is not crushable, but my current  surgeon has not stated anything.  I will be asking him when I see him next time, but was just wondering if anyone has heard the same thing?

If you suffer from depression and are Post OP, can you please comment on what type of medicine you are one?  Is it crushable?

Thanks!
