Topic: emotional eating...new to board

Hello everyone. I am new to this board. I am going thur a 3 month diet program to get RNY surgury. My 3 months will be up around July 10th.

I tend to eat more and sometimes benge eat when I am alone, or when I am bored. I am afriad this will cause me to mess up after my surgery. I do have a live in partner, but if he goes away on a trip for a few days, I eat everything in the house. Sometimes it is to the point of making myself sick.

I am afriad to tell the Nut assocated with my surgen for fear that would delay me having my surgery.

Any ideas or suggestions?

David

Happy Birthday, Marie.  Welcome to the best part of life, the fifties.  I turned 50 about a year and a half ago.

Sounds like you had a good day.

Hugs,
Trish

I have been in AA for almost 20 years.  I am currently in outpatient treatment for my alcoholism.  There are some anti-craving meds, but the reality is, if you are addictive, you will find something else to do or eat, or shop, or whatever, because the problem is not the alcohol, it is our thinking and lack of ability to handle negative emotions.  That is why AA and therapy or treatment are more important than a quick fix to get off the alcohol.

I suggest you attend some AA meetings and find a sponsor to help you learn about the 12 steps.  You can find meetings using the website www.aa.org

You can also read about AA at that website, including the Big Book, "Alcoholics Anonymous."

Feel free to PM me anytime.

Trish

What a great day!! It started with the blessing of waking up! And waking up sober!!! I did a few errands, got my eyes examined, (need a new Rx BADLY)...glasses cost a fortune, but hey...my eyes are important! I didn't want to go out for dinner since I don't have much of an appetite. I plan on doing my 2 miles on the dreadmill while I watch some baseball...:)  My kind of day.

I treated myself to some new clothes in Macy's....SIZE 8 PAIR OF JEANS!!! A few pr. of shorts in a size 10 and some tops!! I am feeling wonderful today and thank God for all my support systems and friends who've helped me not lose hope!

Hugs to all,
Marie

I don't know about meds but it sounds like you need to talk to a professional. what is available to you?

can you tell us more: have you been to AA? or is this addiction new?

04/23 REFLECTION FOR THE DAY
No matter what it is that seems to be our need or problem, we can find something to rejoice in, something for which to give thanks.  It is not God who needs to be thanked, but we who need to be thankful.  Thankfulness opens new doors to good in our life.  Thankfulness creates a new heart and a new spirit in us.  DO I KEEP MYSELF AWARE OF THE MANY BLESSINGS THAT COME TO ME EACH DAY AND REMEMBER TO BE THANKFUL FOR THEM?

TODAY I PRAY
May God fill me with a spirit of thankfulness.  When I express my thanks, however fumbling, to God or to another human being, I am not only being gracious to Him or that other person for helping me, but I am also giving myself the greatest reward of all -- a thankful heart.  May I not forget either the transitive "to thank", directed at someone else, or the intransitive "giving thanks," which fills my own great need.

TODAY I WILL REMEMBER
Thank and give thanks.

It is good to have an end to journey towards; but it is the journey that matters in the end.  ~Ursula K. LeGuin
