Topic: RE: what is it like after mini bypass
Hi,
Everyone is different. Some dump because they find they ate something their tummy wasn't ready for or too spice for them or whatever. I hate dumping. The only time I come close is when I don't chew well or try to eat too fast. Both of these are good habits to have even if you don't have surgery. So, I try to take my time and enjoy my meal.

Topic: RE: Need help getting insurance to approve surgery.
The book "Weight loss surgery for dummies" , available at Amazon, has som practical info on this and some examples of letters you could send to your insurance.
Me, I live in the Netherlands/Belgium and I am paying the surgery myself, because I didn't want to deal with insurance companies. But prices are much lower here, so I'll pay only 6000 eruos (about 7000 usd) all in.

Hi,
If it were that easy, there would be no diet programs, pills or sugar free foods. Probably, the word "diet" would not exist in the weight loss arena. Everyone would be healthy in this utopian world. What a world that would be. Aaaaaah!

I am a failed MGB patient. I even went to see Dr. Rutlege in person when I was at a dangerous level, and he said, I would probably be a candidate for revision. Well, I would not let him touch me again, since I got down to 92 lbs.! Luckily I found a surgeon in my area who would revise the procecdure and he ended up putting my pyloric valve back to my stomach and doing a gastric sleeve. He reversed 8 ft. of intestinal bypass, which was at least double what it should have been for an 80 to 100 lbs. loss. So he made my stomach smaller, re-hooked up all my bypassed intestine, and included the pyloric valve. I gained from 92 lbs. to 125 lb.s and have held there for 2 years. I'm finally healthy, I don't have to worry about hitting a bathroom up to 15 times a day for diahrrea. Everything is normal now. And my lactose intolerance was reversed so I can drink milk again and eat ice cream without horrible abdominal discomfort.
Thank goodness for my local surgeon. I would highly advise MGB patient contenders to check out the gastric sleeve as an alternative.

Topic: RE: Any Canadians have surg. by Dr. Rutledge?
I'm a failed MGB client. I think I was mistaken on the surgery circuit. He by passed 8 feet of instestine instead of 4 to 6 feet which was all I needed for my weight loss. I had to have a revision done (by another dr. because I didn't trust Rutledge to do the right thihg) and was revised to a gastric sleeve. I have been stable at 125 lbs. for 2 years with my revision. If you want a cattle call and take your chances, go to Rutledge. Otherwise. I would advise searching out other alternatives.
Topic: RE: MGB vs RNY Bypass
I had Dr. Rutledge do my MGB. I chose it because it would be easy to undo in case I got cancer (which runs in my family) so I could get good absorption again He botched my surgery so bad, I think he mistook me for someone else. He bypassed WAY too much for what I needed to lose. I had to get another surgeon to undo the surgery and turn in into a gastric sleeve, and I am very happy with that now. I have maintained my weight at 125 for 2 years now. I was dying at 92 lbs while eating 4,500 calories a day, which is very hard with an MGB. After my revision, I just eat smaller portions, but I don't have the gastric distress of gas, and diarrhea that I had before. I love my sleeve and thank the Lord I found someone to make my intestines work properly without having to bathroom map every outing.
