I am so sorry you are going through this difficult time. I feel your pain. I feel your anger. It is good to vent once and awhile. I wish all surgeries were 100% affective, safe and successful. It's a gamble really. We don't know which end of the straw we are going to get. I pray your mom will rally and come around. I don't know who Dr. Almanza is. I can't say any more about that. I hope you are getting some kind of support through your friends, church or where ever you gain strength.
Love always and forever,
Miranda
and who are you hearing this from? This procedure has been so finely tuned, the risk of death is that of a lap gallbladder removal, which is very very small.
I also heard the "OMG I know someone who died", etc. I talked to my surgeon about it and asked what HIS mortality rate was - he was taken aback and said "none" - I said "good, lets keep it like that".
Yes, people have complications, it will happen, BUT - being proactive with your OWN health as well as having a good relationship with your surgeon (if you have issues) will make a huge difference in your success if you do develop complications.
I was jus****ching a TV program about 2 people who had gastric bypass surgery. Both people were well over 800 lbs. The woman died - they said it was cardiac arrest, the man didn't. When you are that heavy, you will have more of a chance for complications, and the Dr's even advised them that they were high risk for dying. They both wanted to take the chance.
I haven't had any issues whatsoever and I think you'll find the majority of people who have WLS don't. I found the "naysayers" were the ones who DIDN'T have the surgery and were just giving their own uneducated opinions about what could happen.
Go through with it - its the best ride of your life and you'll be SO happy you did!

This is one of the positive side affects of weight loss surgery. Many meds are so nicely eliminated!
"Diabesity surgery specializes in bariatric surgery and long-term patient management of individuals diagnosed with obesity-related diabetes," says Dr. Maytorena. "In many individuals, one is directly related to the other. Treating the obesity often treats the diabetes as well."
Studies have shown that many patients diagnosed with diabetes who undergo bariatric or weight loss procedures are able to reduce or completely eliminate their dependence on insulin or diabetic medications.

Due to the clothing exchange, will not have out regular meeting on June 12th, but we invite you to join us the 2nd Saturday of every month thereafter for support meetings.
It's Clothes Exchange time!!! So, clean out your closets, and ask your family, friends, and co-workers to donate their gently used, clean clothes to your wls buddies.
It's so hard keeping up with your wardrobe as the pounds shed, so a clothing exchange is a great opportunity to give and take a few pieces to get you through your transition.
Pre-ops this is a GREAT opportunity to get all the awesome clothes others have shrunk out of. Our loss is your gain:-) The last clothing exchange I attended at the OH conference in November was a free for all for size 2x and up ladies. EVERYBODY had tons of bigger sizes to share.
Your non-wls family and friends are welcome to participate in the swap too, but please ask them to share some things if they are planning to take a few things away.
Please spread the word with your surgeon's office and support group. You do not have to be a member of the GA Losing for Life Group to participate. Everyone is WELCOME.
Feel free to share:
business and casual clothes, especially summer wear
sleepwear
fittness wear, sports bras, sweats, etc.
work out videos, and fittness equipment
bras, and hosiery
swimwear
shoes
purses
accessories
unused protein products, vitamins, and other wls friendly products
wls books, magazines, etc.
**** Please be courteous and only share clean items, and current styles in good condition with no rips, stains, or tears. You do not have to place items on hangers.
Please come join us!
* We will go somewhere nearby for lunch after the swap for those who want to join us.
