I think II would prefer Duodenal Switch an option. Patients are able to eat larger portions than other bypass surgeries because of a larger stomach size. Food is able to digest normally and sustain more nutrients.

Topic: RE: Questions about my surgery next week
Hi,

Two weeks after I had surgery, I had to fly out to CA. I packed all my meds and supplements and made sure my hotel room had a refrigerator.  It was a challenge but I kept to my stage 1 intake.  Do what the doctor recommends that is the best advice to follow.

Women tend to go through a crazy hormonal shift and many end up on the patch.  I didn't go through a severe depression.  I think the changes in my body were very uplifting.  So I focused on that.  It is all an individual journey.  Make sure you get into a good support group.

I have my first info seminar next week....  I am afraid that I will not make it through the surgery.  I hear sooooo many stories about people getting thru the surgery and dieing from the complications a month later....  Not quite sure how to get myself not fearing the worst thing that could possibly happen.  I do not know which one to do.

Any suggestions?????

Topic: Questions about my surgery next week
Hi Folks, My Gastric Bypass surgery is a week from weds. I have a lot of nervousness and suddenly a number of questions:
1.  does anyone here do a lot of travel? I travel a lot in my line of work and am worried about how to eat.  I will be travelling 4 weeks after my surgery. Should I remain on liquids?
2. can anyone share with me the kind of depression they went through making the transition through much of the first year?

Topic: RE: TSH Thyroid Question
A low TSH or Hypothyroid will cause you to gain weight and have a slow metabolism

A high TSH or Hyperthyroid will cause you to have a higher metabolism.

Either problem should be tackled before surgery and you will need to have your thyroid tested frequently for the rest of your life.

As far as weather this is a reason to postpone surgery you really need to ask you DR more questions , such as Exactly what was your TSH ?  Was it between 3-6 or 5-8 or somewhere off the wall ? You will need to do research on your own and find out where the TSH level of your body needs to be, it is different for everyone.

Your best bet is to see an experienced Endocrinologist and I would suggest seeing one right away before surgery of any type.

I have dealt with Thyroid disease for years and it is not something to be taken lightly , please please educate yourself. I wish you the best.
