Topic: RE: Lap Band Revision which surgery to choose help plz MGB or DS

I do not suggest you get the sleeve.  I had the sleeve done in 11/09 I lost 50 lbs and have since gained it all back plus.  I am 5'10" and pre surgery I weighed 236.  Like you I had/have serious food issues and the restriction of the sleeve did NOT solve my problems.  I have seasonal depression and went on a medication that caused most of my weight gain but I know that I have also stretched out my stomach, it is no longer has the restriction it should have. I had mine done in Mexico by a very nice surgeon who did a very nice job and I had no side effects the problem is that I had absolutely no counseling.  All I was told was to eat low carb and low calories.  To be honest that's all you hear on here.  Well you can't live on low carb your whole life and when you finally get sick of it you binge then you gain wither you had weight loss surgery or not.  The problem is that you don't get people on these forums that failed just the success stories because most people are too ashamed.   Before you get any surgery or spend any money know that without a total lifestyle change nothing will work.

Topic: RE: Another Insurance Question
Its actually the other way around most insurance companies do not cover the MGB so the doctors who do the MGB can not accept insurance. Please do your research about this procedure there are a lot of concerns about  the long term medical issues that the MGB may cause.

Your stomach won't be a monster if you have the Sleeve, because about 80% of it will be GONE. Trust me, you'll have more restriction---and less trouble---with the Sleeve than you ever had with your Crap-Band.

It's totally the IV fluids. When I checked in for my surgery I was 324, when I left I was 331!!! I was so discouraged---but I'm a little over a month out and I'm down to 297--so hang in there, you'll do great :)

Hi,

Just wanted to remind you of our special speakers for our next meeting.  This will be great for any of you who suffer from food addictions.  There will be four folks sharing their stories and about recovery.  We will also have water and a small snack.  If you wish to bring some to share, you are welcome to do so.  The meeting will be from 7pm-8:15pm.

Also, this may be a little premature for some of you but I have ordered the Zumba DVDs.  These are set up for different levels of exercise/dance to Latin tunes.  I eventually want to have a time we all can dance and workout.

See you soon!

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.

Hi,

I had my bypass done on the 9th of April and weighed 239 lbs a week later when I got home I weighed 252 lbs!  It took about 10 days after that for me to lose the fluid.  As of today I weigh 222 lbs.  Don't stress!

Topic: RE: TSH Thyroid Question

I have been overweight all my life and was diagnosed with TSH about 4 years ago.  The doctor thought it would help me to lose weight once I started taking the medication, but it didn't.  It appears to be even harder for me know.  I don't understand it.  I am new here and this is my first post.  I am considering a weight loss surgery myself and would love to hear from others as I move forward.

Hi,

If you were given IV fluids in the hospital, it could be your body is retaining it.  I wouldn't worry too much about it at this point.  I can only suggest that you relax and heal.  Take a break from the scale for awhile.

Just wanted to thank you for posting this, I was not aware of any of these issues and it's always helpful to have a *complete* picture.  Thank you!
