I am thinking about MGB or the sleeve. I've read everything I think that I can. I would just like to know what all of you out there think of it. Has anyone had Dr. Aceves or Dr Verboonen do one as well? I need info on if they are good for MGB. Thanks
Topic: RE: Need help getting insurance to approve surgery.
Hi,
Well, sometimes you need to fight for what you want. Where are you having the surgery? Possibly your surgeon can write a letter to your insurance company explaining the need and the health risks if you don't have the surgery. It is a battle but many folks have won. It will take a lot of determination to get approved.

I have Aetna HMO insurance. My plan doesn't cover bariatrics, but I was wondering if anyone out there was able to get there's approved, and if so how did you go about doing it. Thanks in advance for your response.
Topic: RE: Caffine and coffee?
Dr. P and Dr. R allow Caffine. Its not that, its the tantic acid in Coffee and tea that they ask you to avoid. Green tea is ok.

"What is the deal with this MGB?" The big difference between the mini and the full GB is the size of the stomach left intact. The stomach is made smaller and the intestine is re-attached like the RNY, but the stomach pouch is larger (not thumb-sized). The research I have read shows that the weight loss benefits are almost identical to the RNY. However, because you have a larger stomach left functioning, there is less dumping, fewer side effects, eating is a LOT easier, and there's better vitamin absorption in the long run. Dr. Rutledge in Las Vegas invented the procedure (see www.clos.net) and patented the term mini gastric bypass. He wasn't taking insurance for a long time (it was self pay only for 17k). In reading some of the other blogs, this may have changed. It also seems that other doctors are doing the procedure but call it a simplified gastric bypass. A co-worker of mine had it done and she loves the results. I was scared about the RNY. When I heard about the MGB from her, I knew it was for me. I'm in the process of setting my surgery date now. :>)
Topic: RE: how do you find a dr in your area?
Hey, I'm in Nashville too! I found out about the MGB from a co-worker that had it done and she was thrilled. I have been looking into gastric bypass surgery for a long time, but the RNY just seemed so drastic. When I heard about the MGB, I knew it was the right surgery for me. Here's the thing, Dr. Rutledge (see www.clos.net) invented the surgery. He is in Las Vegas. That's where my friend went. There is another surgeon Dr. Rutledge trained located in Orlando and they work together. My understanding is that these are the ONLY doctors doing the surgery in the USA. I think its a patient issue. Anyway, insurance won't cover the procedure because is it relatively new and I didn't have the 17k to get it done. Well, one day I thought "What about out of country surgery" and looked into it. It turns out that there are LOTS of surgeons doing the MGB in other countries. The cost is a lot less (7k to 13k). So, that's where I'm at with it. I am in the process of scheduling my surgery now.

Hi Lawanda. I don't think I'm getting all the emails. Please put me back on the list. I don't think vocational rehab is going to work out. I'm back on the self pay bandwagon. I doubt it will happen this year bc we are doing hardwood. Hubby is not very supportive; I can't control my eating now but makes me think I will do it after surgery. That kind of thinking. I keep checking these loan but all the interest rates are over 20% and that is just ridiculous. CapitalOne stopped doing their low interest card. Not sure what else is going to happen. I'm researching the mini gastric bypass now. It seems interesting.
