I really hope your procedure is successful long-term, but reiterate that Clos and the Dr. Rutledge contingent should be more open abouit possible serious complications, which do exist and have occurred.

I think your 100% correct in that you say that there are possible complications with any of the many types of WLS out there today.  You say both you and your cousin both had problems with your MGB's. What problems were you both experiencing?

I'm so happy finally someone has found some negative blogs about the MGB, could you copy and paste the URL's  of the blogs and articles you found on them here, I'd love to see them please. I looked for months and couldn't find anything.

Did you read the 140 page manual before getting your procedure done, unless there are other complications other than the ulcers, stomach cancer etc etc  that CAN occur if you don't follow the post op regime, what other serious complications did they fail to tell me about that were not in the manual?

Who did your MGB?

I understand what your saying about the CLOS site and 'perhaps' at a pinch it's possible as I'm sure it is moderated. BUT.....if there was a community of people who felt stongly enough to post about bad experiences with the MGB and they were not happy with the results, then those people would find another medium to publish there rants and if there are more than a few then I'm sure an idependant group would be formed. If you have negative comments, I'd love to hear them, You should form your own group. You should look into You tube, it's the future :-)
I've searched extensivly for negative reports and experiences on this procedure and have failed to find anything. Of course I'm going to look elsewhere other then the site 'selling' the procedure, but I didn't find anything.
My decision to get the MGB procedure was based on references. Talking to people from all walks of life and all over the country who have had this MGB procedure done, from one year to 10 years post op. During the application process You are encouraged by CLOS to seek out people and ask them about their experiences. Sure some people lost more than others, some people had more of a recovery time than others but based on my research I decided it was the way to go for me.
I'm now 10 days out, no pain, no nausea, no complications. 16lbs down and 4'' down on my waist. 42 BMI now 38. I'm pleased with my desision, so far :-)

Topic: Recipe for a Great Dip

Here's a recipe for a dip that I make that will be a hit at any event you attend and won't make you feel guilty when you and your friends and family enjoy it.

I use a non-fat sour cream and low-fat cottage cheese and greek yogurt, but of course, you can adjust the fat levels up or down to suit your tastes and dietary requirements. I also make this use freshly chopped green onions instead of the carmelized onions and that's very good too.

I hope that you will enjoy.

Caramelized French Onion Dip

This low calorie, high protein dip is a wonderful way to serve a chip and dip that you can enjoy without guilt and remorse later. While great with conventional potato chips, it's wonderful served with carrot 'chips' and freshly blanched broccoli.

1

Tbs

extra-virgin olive oil

1

Tbs

butter

2

onions, chopped

1

cube

beef bouillon cubes

1/2

cup

water

2

Tbs

Splenda, brown 'sugar'

1

pinch

Black pepper

2

tsp

Worcestershire sauce

1

cup

non-fat sour cream

1

each

low-fat greek yogurt, 6 ounce

1

pinch

Salt, (optional), to taste

2

Tbs

chopped chives

1

cup

lowfat cottage cheese

1

Place a medium skillet over medium to medium high heat and add the extra-virgin olive oil and the butter. Melt butter into oil then add onions and cook 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add bouillon cube to the pan with 1/2 cup water, Splenda "Brown Sugar" and coo****il it "melts" coats onions, stirring frequently, 20 minutes. Add more water as necessary to prevent scorching. Watch the onions carefully, you want them to develop a wonderful mahogany color. Season the onions with pepper and Worcestershire sauce. Remove from heat and transfer to a mixing bowl to cool.

2

Mix the sour cream, cottage cheese and greek yogurt in a medium mixing bowl. Stir in the onions and mix well. Add salt to taste. Serve chilled. Garnish with chives.

Tips

While it is good served immediately, the flavors develop well if it is allowed to sit for several hours before serving.

You are ignoring the obvious.  My cousin and I had negative comments on the MGB and were PREVENTED from posting these problems on the Clos site and subsequently locked out.  This is a site where people are sent to learn about these procedures and the good/bad.  Youtube is not a medium we have ever used.

If people have anything negative to say about the MGB, I'm pretty sure it would be on you tube? (unless they can magically block ALL negative media from everywhere)!!

Not exactly.  Go to http://clos.net and read about it.

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.

Topic: The Atlanta Conference was a BLAST

Well, we did it! We trekked to Atlanta by plane, train and automobile and had wonderful time meeting so many virtual friends we've met online and many more we had yet to meet.

It was soooo good to put hugs to the people we've come to know and care so much about as we have made all of our respective journies.

The first day many sorted through stacks and rack of clothing donated to the swap meet. I'm sure that there were many who had to purchase a new piece of luggage to take home the new smaller lovelies that were so generously shared and passed down.

After the clothing swap, many milled about and met in the lobby, but the event really kicked off at the meet and greet where we all met so many of those avatar buddies we have only met virtually. There will people that were just embarking on their journey and had not yet had surgery, newbies that were just a little post op and then a number of 'old timers'. Of course, every surgery type seemed to be well-represented, which was so nice. I think that many of us found that we much more in common in our respective journeys, regardless of the surgery type that we have chosen as the tool to help get control of our weight.

Saturday morning started off with a corridors of vendors catering to our needs, from compression garments, to supplements, beauty aids to exercise DVDs, inspirational books that included book signings by their well-known authors and much more.

Once the programs got underway, we had a series of speakers throughout the morning that delved into topics such as behavior issues, discussions of surgery types, and intimacy, then we broke for an absolutely fabulous, delicious lunch that was geared to the needs of those losing and maintaining their weight, but I doubt that I single diner felt the slightest twinge of deprivation. The food was beautifully presented, tasted great, varied and plentiful.

After lunch they had breakout sessions that addressed a whole range of topics from plastic surgery in Brazil, to Zumba, cooking, tools to help maximize and maintain your weight loss, etc... They ran multiple small sessions so that people could go to more than one topic and so that they were small enough to allow you to hear and see well, as well as ask questions.

The evening festivities were started off with a 'Fashion Show' where about 25 or 30 participants at varying points of their journeys were able to strut their new bodies, sharing the pride of their accomplishments with so many of their friends and peers. We were all so very proud of everyone who came out to share their new found, healthier, slimmer bodies.

Finally, many danced away the night fantastic, getting in some pretty good cardio workouts.

It was a lovely event and if there is an event coming to an area near you, I would absolutely suggest that you mark your calendar and make plans to attend.
