Topic: LMGB or gastric plication
I haven't been on here in a few years. I think in 2006 I was considering a lap band but ins wouldn't cover it. I've tried to do it on my own the last few years, losing and regaining and then gaining even more and losing and well... you know.
So, I have been working with an NP since May to help with weight loss. I've been trying hard to eat whole foods, and if I am home, I do really well. I don't bring anything in the house anymore that isn't pretty close to natural form or without a bunch of preservatives. My problem is being out in the world, getting hungry at work and there are the crackers... and then someone brings cake, and why don't we go out for lunch///
I know that I have an emotional eating aspect to my weight. I don't binge eat. I do eat things I shouldn't though. My will and resolve are less if I am stressed. Finding time to exercise is difficult and I have to watch how much I do with my fibromyalgia. Currently 294 (up since working with NP for 4 months!!! that's so dissappointing!) and 5'4".
I don't have the desire to do lap band anymore, Iam considering the mini- gastric bypass or gastric plication- which is very new and ins won't cover.
I didn't want to get to the point of needing to have surgery. I have other health issues that make any surgery riskier for me. And I don't want to regret having surgery. I wan't something that will help me help myself. I am looking for the easiest, least likely to have complications, and reversible if needed or can revise if needed.
I can't find a forum for gastric plication. Am I missing it? Did anyone have it or decide not to have it and why?
Thanks!

Topic: RE: Dr. David Hargroder?? And Cost of MGB?
Dr. H did my surgery in 2007. He's a great surgeon and a wonderful person. I've not lost as much weight as I'd like but have lost about 70 pounds. Recently, I have bile reflux! Yuck....I'm very curious why you regret your decision to have mgb. Thanks!!

Topic: RE: Bile Reflux
What I'm having is far worse than the typical gerd. I'm throwing up a great deal of bile, this is definitely not typical. There's no amount of Prevacid, Prilosec, or Tums that can take care of this situation. I feel certain is has to do with the MGB surgery. I have an appointment with my dr next week. I pray more surgery isn't necessary. Thanks for trying to help...

Hi,
This is common among all walks of life, not just weight loss surgery patients. Many times, it's due to eating certain veggies that can cause this. I take a Prevacid almost every night before bed and it seems to help. Check with your doctor to see if this is something you could take. Every time that happens to me, I look back over my day to check what I have eaten or drank. I realize I need to eat less of certain foods. You want to get this under control. I hope this helps.

Topic: RE: Hypothyroid for MGB
I had my surgery in 2007 by Dr. David Hargroder in Joplin, Missouri. I have been hypothyroid since 1997. I would like to lose another 50 lbs to get to my goal weight. I hope this information helps.

How long ago did you have surgery? Who was your Dr? I assume you have hypothyroidism. How much were yiu wanting to lose?

From my experience, it does work but not as well as I had hoped. I've lost 70 lbs but I'm still considered over weight. : (

Topic: Bile Reflux
I had the MGB is 2007 and for the last 6 months or so I've been having terrible bile reflux. I've read that this is a a rare side effect of this type of surgery. Has anyone else dealt with this issue?
