Good for you for getting yourself out the door ever day! It's hard, but worth it, isn't it?
I'm not getting in as much as you, but I'm working on it. I took the dogs for a 45 minute walk one day last week and it was funny to watch them - by the end of the walk they were both dragging behind me. I was thrilled to discover that thanks to a year of aquasize 3 times a week and a pair of good shoes (men's 7 wide from Walmart - now I know what to shop for!) I managed just fine, with no pain at all.
Other days were either aquasize or riding my new bike. Lovey and I even did the grocery shopping by bike on Saturday, and yesterday we rode 2.7 kilometers to where I go to knitting group to see if there's a bike rack, had iced coffee and shopped a bit, then rode home. Today we plan on biking around a small lake near us - with bread to feed the ducks when we need a rest.
I'm going to see about booking a session with a personal trainer at the Y where I go to aquasize and setting up a program of progressive resistance training to build some muscle.
If the doctor is right and I can't lose much more weight (without eating way less than is sustainable) I'm going to do my very best to become the fittest and healthiest I can be at whatever weight I end up at.

Am I understanding correctly - you've been living on mostly shakes for 18 months? How difficult have you found it? How much have you lost? Are you able to maintain the loss while eating a "normal" mixed diet or will you need to stay on shakes and small meals of protein and veg forever?
I ask that because the Bariatric specialist I saw said he could put me on 900 calories of shakes a day and I'd lose a bunch, but that I'd have to stay on that level forever to keep it off. (I'd be thrilled to hear that he's wrong)

I have really been enjoying my walks these past few weeks and think I am nicely falling into a consistant routine, My goal is to walk for 1 hour or more 5 days per week, I hit this goal last week and plan to do the same this week (providing it doesn't rain!) I weighed this weekend and was up a few pounds
, which was a little discouraging, then i took some measurements and realized that I had lost an inch in each calf! and a few inches in some other areas too
! also tried on my "goal" capris and was able to zip them up a little easier, I wore them for about an hour or so, they are still a little too snug to be real comfortable, so I hung them back up in my room where I see them everyday to remind me, that i want those pants to be my comfy summer capris! I will be on my trip 2 weeks from today! and hope to get a full 2 weeks of eating right and exercise
in that time, oh one more thing, got an excellent book, called "Eat this and Live" by Don Colbert M.D great info and it was just what I needed to motivate me in my eating plan again! easy to read and lots of colored photos and interesting facts about the Standard American Diet (sad) like this one, Did you know that the average American consumes 3,770 calories PER DAY
! no wonder we are a nation that is obese! our family went out to dinner on Sat night and now that the calories are listed in the menus, its no wonder, some of these meals had up to 1,900 cal
, FOR ONE MEAL! crazy! anyway I highly recommend this book, I have started reading a little bit of it to our family at dinner time, my kids are 11,9 and 4 and the book is friendly enough for them to get it too, well maybe not so much my 4 year old, but she will get it as she grows! have a great week everyone!

I did it with a support group and dietician. I had to focus on my health for 12 weeks to give me a boost mentally that I could sustain this new lifestyle. After the three months, I decided to keep going since it was working for me. Now, after almost 18 months of stable weight loss (and a few bumps) I am sixty pounds from being underweight! I haven't decided where my goal weight is, but I have decided to take surgery off the table. I'm comfortable with having the option. I do protein shakes for breakfast and dinner with a healthy lunch. I do the weigh****cher frozen meals/lean cuisine/etc or a ton of veggies with a little lean protein like chicken/turkey/pork. After just having the shakes I can actually have a 90 calorie cheese stick with a big bowl of cucumbers or broccoli and feel full. The key for me has been physical activity. I did NONE before. I almost could not walk up one flight of stairs! As the weight came off, it hurt a lot less and my tolerance went up. It was the consequences. When I didn't follow the plan or had two popsicles instead of the one I planned for myself, then I would punish myself by walking for an hour or until my heart rate was in the red zone (187 for me) It is a very personal journey. Pick what works for you. If it isn't working, change it. Don't wait for more than two weeks. It's too easy to quit. LIFE is BETTER skinny. Think of the Kia Soul commercial. You can have THIS or you can have THAT. Once you have a nice body, you'll think it was totally worth it!

The bike I bought is called an Electra Townie 3i in lilac, with purple rims. Not only is it fabulously girly, it's actually comfortable to ride, with a comfy saddle and peddles that are a bit forward of standard position - much easier to get those feet up and peddling. BONUS - I can put my feet down flat on the ground at any time, so I don't fret about falling.

Tell us more about your weight training routine? Although I certainly want to lose more weight, how I look and feel are more important to me than what the scale says. That's why I'm so looking forward to getting rid of my pannis in 6 months. I can easily cover flabby thighs and batflaps (sleeves are wonderful things), but the pannis is ugly no matter what I wear. (or not)
I plan on continuing with my aquasize class, but it sounds like it'd be more useful to head upstairs afterward and do some weight training than to add other aerobic-type workouts?

i agree with the muscle weighs more than fat. since Jan i added weight training to my regiment and didnt lose ANY weight. i was so frustrated. but I had to look at my wordrobe, I went from a size 20 to a 16! i was estatic...
as far as auto piolit... as long as you are cautious with your food, not cheating too much, not gorging, you should be ok. keep up with the exercise and you may even lose a few pounds :)
I had abdominal surgery last week and have been out of the gym for 3 weeks prior because of the pain, i cant wait to go back! as far as my scale though... down 3 lbs! :)

yes it is harder to see the changes in yourself! I still struggle wtih seeing myself as huge in my mind and then sometimes I will catch my reflection somewhere and think "who's that?" sounds silly, but it takes a while for our minds to catch up with our bodies! especially if you have been overweight for a long time, which I certaintly have! keep up the good work, and just keep on pushing! when my collarbones started emerge that was so exciting for me!! BTW biking and swimming are the best calorie burning exercises! I really want to get a bike myself, my husband and I have been talking about doing just that! well, i'm off for now, plan to do another 8 mile walk today! wish me luck! haha!

That's quite likely it - it's tricky to measure myself, but I've noticed I need to buy smaller shorts for swimming (I feel nekkid with just a swimsuit on) and my bras are now loose on the tightest hooks - time for more shopping. It's also time for my monthly pictures. (my husband has been taking front and side pictures once a month so I can see the progress. It's hard to see the changes yourself, isn't it?)
I got the funniest comment at swimming a couple of weeks ago. Someone said "your neck is longer!" I looked in the mirror at home that night and it's definitely thinner (looks longer) AND I have collarbones! Who knew?
