Thanks for all the replies so far, guys. Anyone with or getting an HTC One who wants to chime in?

Yep, the battery life on my Droid has been the single biggest irritant! I've seen reviews that the Maxx has hugely improved battery life than previous Droids.

I've never had an iPhone, no. I'm not a big Apple fan. As far as jailbreaking, I'm not really a power user, so I'd have no reason to jailbreak or root or move from carrier to carrier.

One thing I always get new moms in addition to whatever toy or equipment may seem handy is a stack of receiving blankets. Like, two dozen. They're inexpensive, and I remember that I used them for EVERYTHING! Wrapping/covering baby, drying off after baths, wet clean up, changing pad in public places, nursing cover-up, you name it. They're all purpose, and never go out of style.

No, Oklahoma isn't the laughingstock, that's Kansas.  Oklahoma is too small.  Although I agree that they shouldn't be teaching religion in school.  History of religion, sure, but not religion.  Does no one remember the first amendment anymore?

I guess it really just comes down to what sorts of things they want to do.  I wonder a lot about how well I will handle being a grandparent, if I'll be able to hold my tongue and let my children learn for themselves and just be there when they need me or if I'll be a push in that can't stand how anything is done.  I'm pretty certain the later would be a very easy role to fall into.

For our first I wanted everything new, I wanted the best stroller, crib, clothes, toys etc.

For the boys... Lets just say they often wear their big sisters sparkly pink hand me downs (which they love)...

We had a Valco Tri mode ex (all in black) with the third seat for our daughter.  We went everywhere on foot, by bus, or by bike so investing in a really good stroller was important.

I will say that the Valco brand is *really* amazing, I would go for anything made by them before the major (and popular) US brands.  The Aussies know what they're doing for 'all terrain' strollers.  I was able to get the weight of all 3 plus baby 'stuff' easily through wet/dry sand, over rocks, any city terrain, ice, snow.  Very few strollers can boast that ability so if you're looking for a family 'hand me down' they are a good investment.

Honestly, if we had just had a second child and not a second and third at once, I likely would have gone for one of those super cheapy full fold down models with a newborn insert.  But I don't think too many new moms 'know' exactly what they want until they learn better ;)

Sorry for all the posts!  I know I'm not the only one around here with a bunch of little kids.

DH and I are celebrating our eight year anniversary this month. He's my second one and WAY better than the first! Definitely a keeper, I won't be throwing this one back. We do not have kids and do not plan to in the future. We have two Italian Greyhounds and two cats.

My parents are still together, I have three younger sisters, all married with 1-4 kids. We are a pretty close family. DH's parents are divorced and he has an older brother and a younger sister. We don't see them as much as we'd like.

I hate all things Apple. I think they are pretentious and produce phones that are no better than a droid but more expensive. They want to raise the price by 100 bucks for the 6 fyi. I just upgraded Sunday to the Samsung Galaxy 3 because I got it for .97 cents. It was pretty similiar to the 4. At Wal-Mart for Verizon they had the 4 for like 47 bucks as well. This phone is awesome and has lots of features. I have read that it is the phone most likely to compete with the Iphone and they have gained market share since they have been out.

I CANNOT ABANDON HIM BECAUSE HE HAS NO ONE ELSE.

I think this may be an issue - he knows you "CANNOT ABANDON HIM BECAUSE HE HAS NO ONE ELSE" and he can do as he pleases.  He does not have to be accountable.  Any "intervention" shows tells parents that they need to set up clear rules and consequences and stick to it. One of them " if you mess up one more time - you are on your own" - and mean it.  maybe if he ends up on his face, homeless or in real trouble - he would eventually learn?

I am on my own and even outside of my country since I was 26 years old... I managed.. I was semi on my own when I was 19th.. but I knew if I mess it up I would be the one to pay the  price.

I had no idea that LaLaurie was a real person.  After I read your post, I googled her and it's true.  There's even a tour that goes by the house she lived in in New Orleans.  Here I thought they were completely beyond the pale for creating that character, and now I find out they based it on a real person.  Wow.
