I usually recommend latex but sometimes the specimen can have a reaction to that, so you may need to find something more natural to cover. I hear they make nice coverings in lamb skin, especially if the specimen is reactive. Or you might try a more chemical approach.
Is the juice protein forward?

I have no problem with the clean-up if they explode. If I think one's going to explode I get a receptacle and then I can enjoy the juice.
I live in WA and all of the nature is so pretty here, the pine trees and rivers and mountains. I have friends in California and when I visit them in the big city it's just not the same, they call me a tree hugger LOL. Save a tree, hug a lumberjack!!!
So they're the type that when you pick them, the juice gets on your fingers so don't wipe your eyes?

I think that's great advice. Once they get older, they don't stay as firm. In fact they can get wrinkly and go limp. The little ones need lots of attention.

I would hate for that to happen. Was there a lot to clean up?

I agree. You should cover them with something to protect them. Do you recommend plastic, vinyl or maybe latex?

Your campground and its surroundings sounds wonderful!
Me, I have lived for the past 27 years in central Connecticut in a beautiful old historical town in a beautiful neighborhood with lots of trees and a miles long walking path right outside my door I use every day for my walk. Spring is coming on strong with shoots and flowers coming up everywhere.
One of the best things about where I live is that it's halfway between NYC, where most of my family lives, and Boston, where I lived for 27 years before where I am now. We spend a lot of time both places. Plus we're within an hour of most of our 10 (!) grandchildren.
If I had the $, I would happily live in New York, but it costs $5 to sneeze there.
