Who on here had their surgery at St. Joes in Hamilton and who was your surgeon.
I have worked on many medical surgical wards within the Hamilton hospitals and it is standard protocal to do vital signs post operatively at regular intervals and sometimes that means waking people up in the middle of the night. Also the nurse must check her patients every hour just to make sure that they are still breathing and something hasn't happened in that hour. Yes it is annoying and a nurse doesn't want to wake anyone up if they don't have to but that is part of their job.
I get that they have to do vitals and draw blood and stuff. This one was waking me up to fill out my water log every hour. "Trudy, you didn't fill it between 3 and 4am". Ummmm, that's because I have been sleeping! I can fill it out when I wake up, thank you. Then the next night, no one even said boo. Didn't come in at all. I think they forgot about me. LOL Oh well, it's over now and everyone has a different experience. The nurses in the step-down ward were great!
Hi Bogie
I had my surgery 9 months ago by Dr. Anvari, Everything there was great. I have highly recommended to several people that St. Joes is the place to go. The nurses that took care of us after were absolutely wonderful. As of today I have lost 97 lbs and its the best decision I have ever made. You will do great!!

Hi Bogie. I had surgery at St.Joe's Hamilton on June 1st and came home June 3. My hospital experience wasn't that bad. I had student nurses coming and going all day and at night I just rang my bell and had a hospital nurse come help me out of bed to use the washroom and get me pain medication. I am still sore and agree with whoever wrote that my one side is still hurting. Even to sit up straight sometimes. But I know it will get better with time. I'm almost 2 weeks out. Actually I thought recovering from gastric bypass surgery was alot more gruelling than giving birth...and I did that without drugs! But to each his/her own! I'm still just puttering around the house taking it easy. I'm sure you'll be just fine. Dr. Anvari was my surgeon and I only saw him twice since I was in the hospital. Since May 16th(when I started Opti fast) to yesterday June 13th I have lost 24 lbs. I'm off blood pressure meds and feel so great about that. I just can't wait to actually eat some food and not liquidey stuff! Good luck.
I had surgery Nov 11 2009. I am down to 120 pounds. To be honest I am glad that the rules were strict and I followed them. Between working out, measuring my food and weighting my meat I have lost all my weight. My surgeon is no longer there. She got married and went to the states. I had good nurses and bad nurses. You will get that at any hospital. I have had some complications that I am waiting to having corrected. It will be day surgery so I am waiting for my date. Even with my complication I can say it was worth it. Just remember this is a tool and you still have to work at it.

Hi there,
I had my surgery at St. Joe's on June 3rd, 2011 with Dr. Anvari. I met him when I was in the OR, he seemed nice. I was in the hospital for 2 days and had no complications. I'm a Registered Nurse so I understand the nurse's point of view, for us post-op patients the best thing is to be up and independant as soon as possible to avoid post-op complications. The nurses for the most part I found were excellent. I'm 13 days post op and doing fabulous, walking daily on the treadmill for about 30-40 minutes, about to enter phase 2 of the Full fluid portion of the diet, pain free and since optifast (which I did 2 weeks prior to surgery) I've lost 25lbs!
Good Luck!
