Frustrated

Hey everyone, I went to my doctor (obesity specialist)  Today and asked him to send in a referral for wls.  He did, I seen him fill it out and I seen it being faxed off.  With that said you think I would be really happy.  But I'm frustrated because he is so strongly under the belief that when he gets my meds sorted out for ADD, which he feels I have then losing weight will just happen......  Is it the old insecurities of all the failed diets that I have been on that is getting me so upset?  I can't wrap my head around "a pill" making that much of a difference to make me lose the weight.  I understand that it can help me with being compulsive or impulsive, but really??  That was what has been missing my whole fat adult life?  Sorry, just frustrated.  I'm 46 next month and I have struggled with my weight for sooooo long, I'm really tired of it and feel this tool will make it work for me.  I'm not having a tantrum, I have done a ton of research.  Even years ago but the doctor wouldn't let me.
Thanks for letting me vent.  Any help or sugestions would be really appreciated.

one thing to flag for you, if the refferal is to the bariatric registry it needs to be sent electronicly,  they stoped accepting faxed referrals last October and all referalls go to central registry and then are sent to local centres for processing some sites take longer than others.  As for your doctor maybe he really wants to make sure you have attempted everything possible but for an obesity specialist he seems rather insensitive to your needs and not very well informed about the registry.

Good Luck

just a little FYI Robin...I sent my referral in May and it was done by fax.  Its a form that the registry has the doc fill out and fax it back.

I was at my doctors yesterday and the receptionist was quizzing me on how my referal went though way back.
She said she is trying to send in a referal for 2 other patients and she faxed it like she always has before and they sent it back with a letter explaining they do not accept faxes anymore and it must be done online.  She was venting cause she said trying to get my Doctor to sit at a computer to fill out forms online is going to be difficult and they are not happy.

yes mine was originally faxed in and returned and told to do electronicly that is why I was aware but maybe they have loosened the rules again.

nobody truly knows us like we know ourselves...your doctor doesn't live with 48 hrs 365 days of the year..he/she sees you when you need them to, so their JUDGEMENT on what is going to work is like throwing dust to the wind..

sure drugs may help alleviate some of the things that are associated with obesity..but I don't belive (and I am not a medical expert) that there are any pill or pill combinations that  will turn us around.

There are so many multi-layer factors on how people lose weight with WLS and the reasons those succeed or those that fail have been documented time and time again.

If you want it...GO for it..and if the meds help, then you have double on your side..but why wait ...and wonder..and hope.

I am not sure what ADD medicaiton does in regards to weight gain...if it's an atributing factor or maybe/he/she just believes once you get the ADD unde control you can focus..not sure.

Just remember that the entire process does not happen quickly and it's up to you to make those small lifestyle changes in advance...something as simple as walking more or eliminating pop (even diet pop) is a start.

So go for it.....

I had just read a post.. not sure if it was on the main board, but of a person who has ADD.   She lost weight but the scale was rising in maintenance because of her ADD.  She would continue to eat off schedule.   Any ways, with her doctor realizing she needed better or different meds, she was now succeeding beyond her imagination.   Maybe between wls and meds, you'll do very well.  I hope you get it worked out soon.

Another thing that was not suggested is try and get another opinion..Research on how much weight was lost from people who took it..
I myself have anxiety issues,if I don't take my meds I will have an attack so bad I will pass out..I have tried everything to not be on meds(paper bags, talking with counselors)I have gained weight being on the meds it is one of the first symptoms..

There is no reason to be sorry life is frustrating and people need to vent;it keeps us from losing it lol..Plus with all the other things that are going on in our lives we need a place to go!!!

I would go to your GP and have him fill the referral out online and bypass the specialist... no one says you cant have a second opinion... stand your ground advocate for your health.. and if the specialist is right and you drop the pounds like a rock when he finishes petering with your meds then you can always cancel the WLS appointment...

my 2 cents worth... the weight may come down a bit with the fiddling with the add meds.. but not a whole heck of a lot.. but thats just IMO..

I can't tell you how thankful I am for all your replies!!!! Thank you thank you thank you
On the Bariatric Registry, the doctor signs in and has an id number and he prints off the pages and faxes it into the referral port. Here is the link that says that.

please take a peek for me. To make sure I am reading it right.

p.s. As everyone on here knows from dieting, we can lose weight, for a time but gain it back and more. I'm tired of this yo yo and feel this tool will help me and the meds could be of some help too, but I don't think the pills alone will do it.
