I took your post as if it was tongue in cheek and you were mostly just venting.. I didn't comment, but could totally relate!  Optifast is definitely hard.. but you can do it!!!  If people take things the wrong way, don't worry about it.  They'll get over it!  ;)

Hi Sabrina.

I didn't see your post from last night (I often don't get to check in daily due to my crazy work/school schedule), so I went back and had a look at the thread that followed your original post.  I really didn't find any of the replies to be all that harsh; in fact, I don't really get the "shocked and disappointed" part of this recent post.  It seemed to me that people were being straightforward (certainly not mean) and were expressing concern about your commitment to WLS.  Some of these folks have been around the forum and WLS community for a long time, and have seen the devastating results for people who don't comply with the requirements post-surgically. My take was that the feedback was well-intended.  BTW, have you ever checked out the main forum?  Holy s***, folks on that forum are harsh!

I'm glad that you were just venting and that you are sticking to the guidelines with your OF.  Personally, I didn't cheat at all and actually didn't mind the OF all that much. You will get through this and, before much longer, you'll be on the bench.  I hope that your interpretation of the replies to last night's post doesn't get in the way of you asking for feedback and support if you need it after surgery.

I know what you mean but people want to express the reality of the struggle that goes along with having the surgery. It is difficult and it gets harder after you have the surgery in many respects.

I believe that "you can do it" if you really want the surgery badly enough but you have to commit and people are just making that clear.

People don't mean any harm.

You can do it!!!!!!!!  And when it comes my turn, I'll get through it too (hopefully I'll be one of the people who like it - but I think I'll pick up a sugar free syrup to add before I tackle OF).

Hi Sabrina

OK - I just read thru your original post and now this.....

I must be dense....( don't all agree at once!)....but I didn't see anything that was "SHOCKING AND DISAPPOINTING""...

What I did see were concerned responses.....I would be thankful that people had taken the time to respond to me....

I agree with JennR that perhaps you received some spicier comments because of the sad face and the "cruel and unusual"..

I am also with Tracey....I rarely respond to the whining optifast post.....I am in the ""suck it up camp"..

Remember please - ATTITUDE is everything!!

Barb - (who was on Optifast for 3 months and then 3 weeks pre surgery)

OMG  I think this is the first time that I don't fully, wholeheartedly, 100% agree with you, Barb!  I really took this thread the way Laura did, kind of tongue in cheek and I think that people gave a lecture that I really felt was completely undeserved. I guess some people had a different interpretation, but if in doubt, try give the benefit of the doubt.

lol.....hey Sandy....if it took 2.5 years for us to not agree then thats pretty good eh?

Yup...interpretation.....and its so tough on the internet as we cant discern nuanced speech...(sp)....

Only Sabrina knows what she meant....and she received differing replies....so hopefully she will take the ones that meant something to her and ignore the rest....likely including mine....

Talk to you soon

Barb

A lecture?  No way.  Sandy, how many times have we seen people on this forum act on Sabrina's thoughts about adding food?  Not following?  Not complying?  Seriously, you and I usually agree but sorry, I feel you're off base.  "Shocked and disappointed"?  Please. There are people here who are literally DYING to have surgery.  Of course they posted concern.
