Flu Shot?

I know this is a question for my centre, and I will ask them when I can get someone to answer the phone next time I call, but I was wondering...

Does anyone know of any reason why a pre-op should avoid getting the flu shot so close to possible surgery? (I'm still waiting for my team to call and give me a green light).

What about recent post-op's? Should they avoid it? Or is it like everyone else - subjective and up to the individual.

Just curious if anyone has heard anything relevant regarding this....

haven't heard anything about not getting flu shot pre or post surgery. Might be a protective factor for pre ops, so you don't get reallyl sick and have your surgery postponed.

Hi there

Really no reason. Totally up to you. The flu shot doesn't affect surgery in any way.
I would just be careful getting it days before surgery in case you have a reaction and get sick. Other than that totally up to you

When I had my tummy tuck done 3 years ago, I asked the PS if I could get the shot and he said to wait as my surgery was only 2 weeks away. Since you don't have a date and it likely won't be within 2 weeks, I'd go ahead.

I called and asked and was told I was totally OK. Mind you, I don't have a date for surgery yet, but I believe it will be this year - knock on wood!!

My surgery was end on Oct last year and I was told to try to get my shot at least 2 weeks prior to surgery. Two weeks is the timeframe to allow you maximum protection from the flu. I was told that it would be important to have that protection either 2 weeks before or wait until right after but that the shot was very important because post surgery we are not likely to be getting proper nutrition and my resistance would be down as a result.

I was told: no flu shot 30 days pre and post surgery from the my surgeon and his nurse.
I didn't question... I had so many things on my mind.
