IBefore surgery, I had never had a yeast infections in my life. Since surgery, I have had many. It is so weird. Do you think it is related in some way? Somone on the main board was talking about "systemic yeast overgrowth" and being the hypochondriach I am, now I'm worried. Has anyone had trouble this way?

One thought I had is that I am running a lot and do sweat in that area, but I always have a shower the minute I get home. I only recently had 20 days of antibiotics, so no long term use here.

I'm a tad worried.

I'm not sure - I would suggest you visit your GP and ask...at least that would ease your mind (amongst other area's.... )

20 days is still a long run to have antibiotics.. if your system is like mine I get those dreaded infections whenever I am on antibiotics. I try to combat it with the acidophilus pills when I am on any meds.

It's been a reocurring problem over the year though, and other than the recent round, I haven't had any antibiotis since right before surgery last year

Hey Ruby, I've used acidophilus pills after antibiotics aswell... did you use them right after WLS? Did you pop the capsules open and add them to a shake? I don't think I could swallow one of those immediately after WLS...?

HI Marny,
I googled WLS + yeast infections and it appears you are not alone by any means.  I didn't specifically see the cause but there seem to be a lot of women with reoccurring yeast infections post WLS.  Good luck finding the root/cause and the solution.

In my opinion, you would do well to go to your family physician and request a test for Candida infection.

It CAN be systemic, and it CAN enter the bloodstream via an IV or a catheter.
It is extremely uncommon, but it CAN happen.

Testing for Candida is quite easy, and it is usually quite treatable.
Be aware, it seems to be a favourite topic among the New Age amateur physicians online, so don't get led astray by miraculous cures and dubious homemade tests.

20 days would do it. For me 3 days is long enough. Speak with your GP. Probiotics works well to reset your system, The antibiotics get rid of the good bacteria too which allows the yeast to overgrow. It is always in our system. changes in hormones too can cause the infections too,

20 days is a long time to be on antibiotics. Take some probiotics.
