You are probably right about the 2-3 week stall. I just wish I could exercise...that would make me feel like I was helping my cause. I go see my GP in 1.5 weeks, and maybe he can help me to understand the muscular strain on my left side... it just doesn't want to let up...but like I said, at least its not demanding pain killers anymore.

Melissa, you've had one helluva curveball thrown your way since you awoke from surgery, but you are championing through it...and I have all kinds of respect for you!

And now, thanks to your post, I want some gravy & mashed potatoes! LOL

I'm making pot roast later...so maybe just a little....a tablespoon or two would be good  ;)
Toni!  I have that same pain in my left side!  My doctor told me to be patient and remember that the instruments they use go through layers of fat and muscle and it eventually will resolve itself!  It gets a lot worse for me if I put a bra on...like all the hard work of lifting my massive girls puts extra emphasis on that area!  HAHAHA

Wearing a bra drives me crazy, too.  it aches on the left side and I"m constantly fidgeting with it and trying to move it away from the left side pain area.  Unless I'm going to work or another pubilc appearance that requires me to remove my jacket...I'm going braless for now.  And the girls have already started heading south...oh, lord.  It ain't gonna be pretty when I'm done losing.

Early out I was getting in about 500 calories per day. In the hospital I asked the dietician about calories, she told me to just focus on protein. I try to get 150g of protein/day so my calories now are higher & likely higher than some vets.

Simona I was told by the dietitian to decrease my protein intake as I dropped weight. Protein consumption is based on your body weight so it might be a good idea to check with your centre and see how they feel about this. I think I was told to aim for 75g of protein per day but I need to go and check my notes for an absolute figure but I know I'm close.

My aim of 150g/day is for a specific reason. I lost a lot of muscle during the first few months post-surgery and in order to prevent further loss and in order to gain muscle I have to eat larger amounts of protein.

When I started this I was very clear with the folks at Humber & the surgeon that my goal was not to be skinny. I want muscle. A lot iof it. That's hard to do in a caloric deficit. The only way to do that is to eat protein. 80g won't get me anywhere near where I want to be. Dr. Huynh was actually very happy to hear about my goal. He said too many patients don't focus on muscle they just want to get to a "normal" weight. Which is fine - everyones goals are different. The dietitians sometimes don't quite know what to do with me but that's okay. I do my own thing They rarely come across women who want to bulk up.

As your weight decreases you need less because your body's needing/using fewer calories for day to day activities.. That's not the case for me. As I lose more fat and gain muscle I need more protein. Ideally I should be getting over 200g/day but I just can't eat that much.

Toni, I have that muscular thing on my left side as well. I find it feels uncomfortable when I turn gingerly in bed or cough. I am three weeks out (tomorrow) and have not dropped a pound since last Monday. I know it's probably a stall but discouraging nonetheless. I am probably consuming 500 to 600 calories a day. Still on full fluids till next week.

I hear ya Diana! I completely agree... I'm not sure if you took measurements before the beginning of your journey, but I did...so in an attempt to make myself feel better, I had hubby take them again.

i have lost 16 inches off my body... so the scale may not move the way I like, but that's proof that the RNY is still working. :)

About your left side "muscular thing" Your new pouch (stomach) is on your left hand side just below your breast/ ribcage. Its a very tender spot. If you eat or have gas you will in all likely hood feel it there. Believe it of not (and yes this is TMI) but when I have to have a BM I can feel pressure in this area. I assume its because of gas related to the needing to go.

Try not to worry. Lots of poking and prodding went on in this area. It was tender for me for a long while post op.

About not losing any weight since Monday. It is humanly impossible to only eat 500 calories per day and not lose weight. Give your body a chance to catch up to all that its been through...

i didn't strain anything, but I've been tender on my left side since surgery, too.  It kind of does feel like a muscle pull...but a bit deeper inside.  I think it's just from all the work that was done on that side of the body. I hope it goes away eventually.

I know that you did pull a muscle, Toni, but maybe the pain is a combination of the two on your left side?

Yes, I think that is exactly what it is... it is getting better...just very very slowly. I will make sure its nothing more serious when i see the GP on the 22nd. :)
