I think I get it
So I'm finishing up week one post-op and I realized something tonight. The TWH Clinic gives you a menu sample to help you get started through each stage. At the hospital they tell you 15ml every 15 mins, then 30ml every 15 mins. You go home and your supposed to take an hour to eat 1/4 c of cream (strained soup), 1/4c unsweetened applesauce, 1/3c protein shake....but are you only supposed to consume 30ml every 15mins? Thats not realistic. Learning to eat slower is. So I think what we really need to do is learn to listen to our new pouch. It's not going to take long to consume 1/4c of soup...it's very liquidity....applesauce is a different story. I'm going to take my time and listen to my pouch, eat things slower but at the right the proper for the food I'm eating.

I found protein shakes went down slowly. One Premier Protein shake took me an hour to finish but broth went down quite quickly. It might have been the temperature or the texture or even the fact that one was sweet and the other savory. You're right... the sooner you learn to listen to your pouch, the easier things will be. That said, though, make sure you eat only the amounts you should be. The nerves leading to your new stomach might not provide you with enough sensation early out to let you know when you've reached your limit. At about six weeks out I finally understood what people meant when they said that. All of a sudden it was like I finally felt what it meant to take one bite too many.

Yes, I agree that it is important to listen to your body. However, it is also important to remember that when you have surgery, they cut many of the nerves in your stomach, and for many, many, people, they don't feel that "full" sensation until about 6 months out. That is why they are so specific about times and measurements early on. You may feel able to eat much quicker than they reccomend with some foods, but that doesn't neccesarily mean that it is okay for your new pouch to do so. Just be careful and go slowly like you said. :)
