What is this "Hormone Dump" you speak of?

Dear fellow post-op'ers.... I think I am experiencing a Hormone Dump...but I am not 100% sure....

IF you have experienced this, can you tell me a little about your symptoms/experience with it?

I wrote a blog post today, and I suggested that a Hormone Dump is responsibile for my extreme moodiness this week. Not to mention I got another migraine...I have always attributed my migraines to hormone fluxuations, as I used to get killer ones with my periods...

But i had a Hysterectomy in the fall, but kept my ovaries...which obviously are still producing hormones... just for a non-existent uterus now. So I am thinking that, combined with hormones reentering my bloodstream as fat stores get used up, might account for my "off-the-wall" mood swings.

I had never actually heard the term "hormone dump" until I came to this website... so I was hoping you folks that know what this is, could elaborate a little?

(And yes, I did search the site...but I don't trust a lot of other boards as much as I trust the Ontario board.... just sayin')

If you still have your ovaries, then you are indeed still producing hormones. Were you moody, too, when you used to get your period? If so, then along with the migraines, i'd say that what you are experiencing hormone dumping.

it'll settle out, i'm sure.

Was I moody before? OMG.... yes.

Looks like I will just have to ride it out.... hopefully the exercising will generate some happy endorphins.

The faster you lose the more hormonal you are going to be.  Once your weight loss slows down, things settle pretty fast. I still have my ovaries as well but don't get PMS or mood changes at all now that my weight loss is done.  Enjoy the hormonal ride because it means you are burning fat.

Toni I mirror what Tracey said. I have my ovaries still and in the beginning I was a real freaken witch at times for the longest time, not sure how my hubby lived to to tell the tale lol

It will get better as your weight loss settles down.
