How many days after surgery did you take the pain meds?  I am only taking them as needed, but don't want to take long than that. lol  When I had my gallbladder out I took the pain meds for 5 days, less each day.
Thanks for your input.

I haven't taken any pain meds since the morphine drip on day 2.  They didn't give me a script for anything other than childrens tylenol and I hate syrops.

Hi Brenda (and welcome to the bench)....
I would think as long as you are reducing your med's each day you are doing fine.....
As most are saying.....by day 3 - 5 .....most are off pain med's....

I have reached my goal weight ..... and LOVE my RNY !!!!!!!!!

I was the same as Stephanie, no script for pain meds except for the liquid yucky cherry tylenol. I tried to take one dose of the tylenol on my 3rd day out but it was so disgusting tasting that I couldn't get a full dose in. Thankfully I didn't need to take it again. But all people are different and so are their pain and discomfort levels. You will know when you don't need them anymore.

I think I'm doing pretty good. I am keeping a journel of everytime I take them as well. But I don't think I will need them too much longer. (I say that while not in pain lol)

After I left the hospital, the only pain med was liquid codeine which they prescribed. I took nothing when I came home and did just fine. One week out, I thought I tore my stomach because of the way I moved. Was apparently a ligament. That hurt quite a bit. I called my centre and they told me to take two extra strength tylenol every four hours. I had to crush my first two and they tasted horrid, so I let it go and was fine from then on. Good luck, if you can tolerate some discomfort then you should be fine. However, when in doubt always check. Brenda, you sound very organized and in a good place. Any regrets?

The last time I took them was in the recovery room after my surgery. I did not have pain after that.
