She's "BIG" like you

Hmmm - about terminology - had an interesting chat with a guy at work yesterday.

We were talking about fat people, and I was fumbling for another word. You know, how you do when you'd rather not use "fat" repeatedly.

He said "I wonder how our society has gotten really good at finding euphemisms for fat people, and making allowances for them. The only really acceptable discrimination anymore is against smokers."

While I stood there aghast, he went on,
"As soon as anyone hears I'm a smoker, I may as well curl up and die in a corner. I am banished from anywhere - soon I won't be allowed to smoke in my own car anymore - and God forbid I should seek medical help for anything at all. I will be refused treatment because I have supposedly done this harm to myself. But what about people who overeat? Haven't they done it to themselves as well? Why are they treated like they're just poor souls who need help, and I am treated like I'm a stupid wretch who's hurting everyone else?"

Guess he's never been fat.

My excess weight is causing problems to me and only me.  No one else is harmed  (unless I fall on them)

If someone blows smoke at me, I stop breathing because my lungs go nuts.  (yeah asthma)

Me turning blue trumps other peoples fat phobias.

You know what Sandy, you may be right.  I am the shortest in my family and as such do not consider myself "tall", however at 5'8" I am indeed no slouch.

It is hard though when one hears those words to not interpret them to mean your fat, tat is our Psyche.

All I can say is that I can't wait to be your "size".  You are beautiful, don't let anyone rain on your accomplishment!  Older people think that they can get away with anything.  My Great Aunt said to me at her husband's funeral, "Wow, you got fat.".  no filters

You go girl, always hang on to the positive.  Often negative comments reflect how they perceive themselves.

I was listening to the radio the other day the there was just a study released about this..

people who know you when you were heavy will still refer to you as the fat person even after 100's of pounds lost. the study also revealed that people given the background of formally obese patients still view them as lazy and unhealthy

people cant let the fat glasses fall off their face
