Isn't amazing that people who are sexually assaulted (whether as children or adults) still carry the stigma around with them? When I met with the physician to go over my sleep study results we discussed the pre-test questionnaire. One of the questions is: "Have you ever been the victim of sexual abuse or assault?" He explained that many people who have a history of sexual assault do develop disordered sleep patterns such as sleep paralysis. The absolutely shocking tidbit he shared: he meets someone who has been assaulted every single week in his practice. This is a physician who works in Thunder Bay - not a big urban centre such as Toronto. That, my friend, is some scary s**t!!
