a) you may be sick independently of the optifast.
b) you may be having an allergy to an ingredient of optifast - did you read the ingredients?
c) it may be that the drop in calories is affecting you.
d) You may do better to have 1/2 a package 8 times a day, rather than 4 packages 4x a day.
I'm not really sure about the runs at 1 day on optifast. This makes me think you are sick with something else, or have an intolerance to one of the optifast ingredients. I would call your surgeon's office. Are you on for 2 weeks or 3 or more?

thanks for the reply..I am on for two weeks...I am having surgery on the 19th at Toronto Western, the nurse at the hospital told me that diaherra could be a problem but to use metamucil or benefiber to control it....I wondered if it was just the drop in calories, maybe it will just take a couple of days for my body to adjust...thanks for your help

Um... I am a bit concerned that you only got in 3...
Reality is we take a drastic drop when we start something like Optifast even if we get it all in. With all 4 you get a total of 900 calories in your day (plus anything else you consume), and you make sure you get your daily nutritional needs.
Light headed - can be flu, cold, or even not enough calories.
Nausea - can be flu, cold, not enough calories, or a problem with the ingredients.
Feeling like crap - can be flu, cold, not enough calories, or a problem with the ingredients.
As for the "trots" (sorry my fave word for them)... Opti can do that with even one package for some. It is a milk product. Milk products can do that...
The things I was told when I did Opti independent of the surgical program:
Probiotics - they help to regulate you and lower the problems of the "trots".
Fibre - Benefibre (worked better for me), or metamucil work... They will regulate you and tend to limit the "trots" or the opposite reaction. The beauty of Opti is it can get you coming... going... or change during the same day.
I am a bit concerned for you... You may just be ill as mentioned previously but you still need to get these shakes in. They are so important to make sure you have the right daily nutrition.
Hope you feel better...

I am on day 3 and have used opti before. I also felt slightly nauseated at times during the past two day although not too badly. You might have the flu. Make sure you are drinking lots of water as well as the opti.
Also the artificial sweetners can bother you. The first 3 days are the worst generally and then it gets better. Being light headed may just be the lack of calories. I hope you have the weekend to rest up and you should be better by the time the long weekend is over.

I became ill with opti fast, It would get worse with each shake that I took..found out I am allergic to aspratame. I had to go on a low fat, low carb high protein diet.
If you are feeling progressivly worse with each shake, I would call the clinic to let them know..
I hope you are feeling better soon
