Update on Intussusception

An intussusception is a medical condition in which a part of the intestine has invaginated into another section of intestine, similar to the way in which the parts of a collapsible telescope slide into one another.[1] This can often result in an obstruction. The part that prolapses into the other is called the intussusceptum, and the part that receives it is called the intussuscipiens.

So I had a follow up with the surgeon last week Monday and got more information on the CT results from my Emerg visit a couple of weeks ago. It is actually the connection from the blind or remnant stomach to the small intestine that is the problem. This limb is distended and will probably need to be cut and reattached. My surgeon wanted to consult with the Radiologist again first before we make the decision on what to do next and when. The intussusception was not visible on the CT I had in June but clearly visible this time. Fixing this issue for me will involve a full open surgery. Not something I look forward to after self paying for my Fleur de Lis tummy tuck.

The waiting is awful, isn't it.  I felt the same way waiting for my gall bladder surgery date. I lived in fear for months.  Here's hoping they figure this out for you SOON. XO
