I am so sorry I haven't been on here in ages. The newbies won't even know who I am but I used to be on here every day. I'm not very techy but I hope I can figure out how to do before and after pics. I always loved those when I was just staring this journey. I had my surgery on August 29th 2011 (with Dr. Hong at St. Jos in Hamilton). I had a failed gastric band removed, gall bladder removed, hiatus hernia repair and RNY all at the same time. At my highest I weighed 305.5 and I am only 5' 2 1/2 inches. I wore a size 26 (or very tight 24) and 4x. I had sleep apnea and was in pain all the time just walking. I now weigh 182.5 (down 123 lbs so far) . My goal is to be 145.5 but I will have to see how my body feels and what is healthy for me. I am down to a size 14/16 in pants depending on the make and a size XL/L in tops...I even fit a few mediums. I feel absolutely amazing!!! I have started a new career in real estate which I could never have been able to do a year ago.It has been crazy busy and thats the biggest reason I am never on here. I can literally run up and down the stairs now when before surgery I could barely walk. What a gift this surgery is and I feel so grateful to be in a country where this is covered by medical insurance. For those of you waiting for surgery or perhaps newly postop it is worth all the hassle and discomfort. Try to follow the rules as best you can. It really does work but it is only a tool not a magic wand. Especially as you get further out. You really have to develop good eating habits. The weightloss has really slowed down for me now. I am losing an average of 1 lb a week but I am happy with that. What works for me is being really strict during the week and really focusing on high protein and staying away from the bad carbs. Then on the weekends I am a little more relaxed and will have some pasta or bread etc. I still choose whole grain and its all in moderation. I used to really love my wine with dinner and now I only have a little again on the WE. It really is a lifestyle change but I find I enjoy food even more now because it is not mindless eating. I choose what I want in small portions and thoroughly enjoy it. My husband laughs at me because sometimes when I am really hungry I will take a larger portion and he looks and says "and who i going to eat that?" LOL....he knows I will never fini**** Thats what I love about the tool RNY....It won't let me overeat like I use to. The few times that I did overdo it in the beginning I found out in a hurry. I would get this mucus in my throat and sometimes I would sneeze. I actually only threw up once in the early stages.
I feel so normal now and not so self conscious that everyone is looking at the obese lady. Of course there is the lose skin on my upper arms and panni but I am still working at that and Im not even going to consider doing anything for at least a year after I reach my goal which I hope to reach by my 2nd year anniversary. I want to give my body time to see what it can accomplish on its own as far as tightening up with exercise. I want to thank all the vets that were there for me along the way and answered all of my questions. I don't know how to attach pictures to this post so hopefully my daughter can help me next time. I will try to come on here more often.
